Social Care Worker - Aftercare Services

Purpose of the Role

Barrg Healthcare is recruiting Social Care Workers to support young people and vulnerable adults across aftercare, transitional care and community outreach services. The role involves helping individuals develop the practical, emotional and social skills needed to live as independently as possible. You will build on the work of foster carers, families, social workers and residential teams while promoting inclusion, dignity and equal citizenship.

Salary: €16.00-€19.86 per hour

Job Type: Full-time and part-time

Shifts: 12-hour day shifts, 10am-10pm, and 24-hour shifts, 10am-10am

Reporting to: Aftercare Coordinator

Probation: Six months

Flexibility is required due to the 24/7 nature of the service.

Essential Requirements
  • Applicants must: Have permission to work in Ireland
  • Have at least one year's experience in a healthcare or disability-support setting
  • Hold, or be completing, a BA in Social Care or relevant QQI Level 7 qualification
  • Be registered with CORU as a Social Care Worker, or be completing a CORU-approved programme leading to registration
Desirable Experience
  • Full clean driving licence
  • Experience in a social care setting
  • Knowledge of report writing and support planning
  • Experience supporting individuals with challenging behaviour or mental-health needs
Key Skills
  • A respectful, non-judgemental and trauma-informed approach
  • Ability to prevent and manage challenging behaviour
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Basic IT and report-writing skills
Main Responsibilities
  • Support the development and delivery of care and placement plans
  • Promote each service user's rights, independence and responsibilities
  • Support attendance at education, training, medical and clinical appointments
  • Liaise with families, professionals and external agencies
  • Maintain accurate records, reports and incident documentation
  • Assist with meals, household budgeting, cleaning and home management
  • Follow all Barrg Healthcare policies, safeguarding procedures and emergency protocols
  • Attend staff meetings, supervision, training, case conferences and strategy meetings
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and follow direction from the management team
  • Complete other reasonable duties appropriate to the role
