Job Description:

The purpose of this CNS post is to:

Deliver care in line with the five core concepts of the role set out in the Framework for the Establishment of Clinical Nurse/Midwife Specialist Posts, 4th edition, National Council for the Professional Development of Nursing and Midwifery (NCNM) 2008.

The CNS (Osteoporosis Service) will focus on patients referred to SUH for DXA scans.

  1. The post holder will provide expertise in performing high quality DXA imaging and a specialist nursing service.
  2. The primary focus of the post holder will be to perform DXA Scans on patients referred to the department compliant with legislation, regulation, policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines, ensuring the delivery of high quality and patient–centred care.
  3. To contribute to the quality of care experienced by patients referred for DXA scans through the practice of evidence-based specialist Osteoporosis care.
  4. To improve patient outcomes through the provision of information and education.
  5. To contribute to health promotion activities relating to Osteoporosis.
  6. To evaluate the quality of service provided through participating in ongoing clinical audit and nursing research.
  7. To contribute to practice development in Osteoporosis management through the education of nurses, support services and allied health professionals.
