Job summary

AECOM in Ireland is seeking a Traffic Control Engineer to deliver specialist design and consultancy for junctions, crossings and MOVA/signal projects across the UK and beyond. You will produce design packages, contribute to RAMS, and support client engagements.

You will collaborate with highways, structures, drainage and environmental teams, ensure compliance with DMRB/TSMG/TSRGD, mentor junior staff, and help shape bids and technical proposals while maintaining high quality deliverables.

Qualifications

  • BEng or equivalent in Electrical, Electronics, or Civil Engineering.
  • Knowledge of the latest traffic control engineering design standards and implementation processes.
  • Experience with MOVA control and traffic signal technology applications.
  • NHSS8 / HERS registered.

Responsibilities

  • Produce design packages, including design layout drawings, design reports, ITS1827 forms, MOVA data sets and works specifications for junctions and crossings.
  • Contribute to RAMS, hazard logs and technical assurance evidence.
  • Provide implementation support in the form of FAT, SAT and MOVA / Bus priority / SCOOT Validation.
  • Prepare and respond to technical queries, departures, and assurance/approval gate reviews.
  • Collaborate with highways, structures, drainage, geotechnical, environment and traffic teams to integrate technology with civil and electrical works.
  • Attend meetings and engage with clients at various locations across the UK.
  • Provide support and mentoring to junior members of the team.
  • Quality: Ensure compliance with UK standards and guidance (e.g., DMRB, TSM, TSRGD), CDM 2015 and Safe by Design principles.
  • Support programme, cost, and risk management; contribute to bids, estimates and technical proposals.
  • Check that the quality of technical deliverables is in line with the client’s brief and AECOM’s quality procedures.

  • Proficiency in producing technically assured deliverables (e.g. AutoCAD, Civil3D), equipment schedules, ITS1827 forms, and MOVA designs including MOVA data sets and design reports.
  • NHSS8 / HERS registered.
  • Experience in traffic control engineering design and implementation support, especially in MOVA control.
  • Design skills in advanced traffic control modes (MOVA / SCOOT), and operations at junction and corridor level.
