Job summary

Bentley Systems seeks a polyglot Senior Software Engineer to join a high-velocity Strategic Initiatives squad in the Office of the CTO. You’ll prototype, de-risk architectures, and accelerate tactical engineering across Bentley’s global product landscape with autonomy and mentorship from senior architects.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience designing and delivering high-performance software.
• Proficiency across multiple languages (C#, TypeScript, Python, Java, or C++).
• Solid knowledge of distributed systems, multi-tenant patterns, containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes), and at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• Hands-on experience investigating performance bottlenecks, concurrency issues, memory leaks, latency profiling, and network reliability.
• Highly self-directed and comfortable operating autonomously.
• Experience leveraging generative AI APIs, vector retrieval/RAG patterns, or AI-assisted development tools.
• Bachelor’s degree in CS, Software Engineering, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Architect, implement, and benchmark functional PoCs to accelerate and de-risk complex technical hurdles and evaluate emerging technologies.
• Partner directly with executive technical leadership on exploratory engineering problems.
• Move across technical domains from performance profiling to microservices, APIs, and modern front-end spikes.
• Take vague, high-level briefs and independently explore viable technical paths with minimal direction.
• Package validated prototypes, architectural findings, and performance data into clean deliverables for production.
• Actively integrate AI-assisted engineering workflows to shorten research cycles and test hypotheses faster.
