Elasticsearch B.V. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team. You will shape the technical direction, design new search features, and resolve challenging bugs across a globally distributed engineering group.

You will work on cutting-edge vector search capabilities, contribute to the core search experience in Lucene, and collaborate across continents via email, GitHub, Zoom and Slack. Strong Java skills and autodidactic collaboration are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience with search or vector databases and relevant algorithms and libraries at scale.
• Strong core Java skills, with knowledge of data structures, concurrency and lambdas.
• Autonomy to lead projects from design to delivery and collaborate across engineers.
• Experience collaborating remotely and asynchronously across distributed teams.
• Familiarity with data storage technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra.

Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to deliver an industry-leading search engine with speed and relevance.
• Build new search features and fix bugs; prototype algorithms or data structures as needed.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team focused on vector search capabilities.
• Be the expert on Elasticsearch search relevance and drive improvements based on questions and instincts.
• Engage with community members, triage issues, and contribute to open source workflows.
• Write idiomatic modern Java and contribute to code quality and understandability.
