Main Function of the role
Hermes Fund Managers Ireland Limited ("HFMIL") is part of the Federated Hermes, Inc. group ("Federated"). Reporting to the Head of Risk Ireland ("HoR"), you will work with the HoR and the broader Group Risk teams to support an effective fund risk management system for HFMIL and its products under management, built around strong governance, policies, oversight and controls. You will also assist with other projects or initiatives as required
Key task and responsibilities
- The goal of this role, in conjunction with the Head of Risk, Ireland and the broader Group Risk teams, is to deliver value-added Risk Management through a combination of in-depth knowledge of each asset class and each Fund Managers’ investment style for HFMIL managed Products.
- Assist the Head of Risk, Ireland to identify and review on an ongoing basis the investment risk characteristics of all Products, regularly overseeing the delegates’ assessment of the current levels of risk and monitor against risk limits and in accordance with the risk profiles set by HFMIL.
- Proactively engage with and provide input into various internal and Group committees as the fund risk lead.
- Review on an ongoing basis the risk characteristics of all Products (such as liquidity and market risk), regularly overseeing the delegates’ assessment of the current levels of risk and monitor against tolerances set by HFMIL.
- Primary contact for day-to-day Fund Risk Management and interaction with the broader teams, including Head of Investments, Product Development and broader business.
- Provide guidance, advice and support across the business to identify, assess and manage fund risks. Aspire to be the technical expert in UCITS and AIFMD and funds in respect to risk management
- Ensure periodic stress tests and risk analysis are conducted to identify, measure, manage and monitor risks associated with the investment positions (including liquidity risk, sustainability risk and market risk).
- Work closely alongside the Head of Risk, Ireland and the Federated group risk functions in execution of tasks and responsibilities for HFMIL and integrate and/or enhance existing group processes and procedures as part of HFMIL’s risk management framework.
- Manage the onboarding of new products including assessments of asset eligibility criteria, interpretation of the regulatory requirements and finalisation of the supplemental risk documentation as required (such as RMP, investment risk framework).
- Maintain, develop, receive and review reports on fund / investment risk related issues such as significant movements in risk profiles or liquidity exposures, carbon exposures, and other fund / investment risks applicable to the Products in order to monitor each Product’s risk levels and exposure to risk. Interpretation of analytics across all asset classes
- Engage and interact with HFMIL’s other designated persons ("DPs"), in particular, Operational Risk Management DP and Regulatory Compliance DP as part of HFMIL’s overall risk management framework.
- Act as member of, and HFMIL’s representative to, various governance committees as required. Act as a member of, and HFMIL’s representative to, various industry fora as required.
- Work with the HFMIL’s Risk function on projects including new product and/or change management initiatives. Help to support projects to improve performance and allow the business to scale delivery of service.
Minimum Experience Required
- Minimum 4-5 years’ experience working across the areas of fund risk and/or investments
- Strong numerical qualifications
- Likely to be educated to degree level (or equivalent) or alternatively with a relevant qualification in risk.
- Significant experience working in a fund risk / investment management role in a fund management company/ asset manager.
- Experience of a wide range of investment products (Equities, Fixed Income, Derivatives & Private Markets).
- Good knowledge of the Irish financial services regulations and framework.
- Good systems knowledge and data analysis skills (FactSet knowledge desirable)
- Experience of managing and delivering on projects/change initiatives
