Job summary

Barrington James is recruiting for a Senior R&D Engineer in Shannon, Ireland, to lead the development of next-generation implantable medical devices from concept through to launch.

You will drive design controls, risk management and V&V activities, supporting regulatory submissions and collaborating across design, manufacturing and QA teams to advance a bone regeneration portfolio.

Qualifications

• A degree in Mechanical, Biomedical or Materials Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years' R&D experience in medical devices (implantables preferred).
• Strong knowledge of design controls, risk management and V&V.
• Hands-on experience with mechanical, materials or device-level performance testing.
• Project leadership experience and a practical, problem-solving mindset.

Responsibilities

• Lead development projects end to end from design inputs to design transfer.
• Define and run V&V strategies including bench testing, performance evaluation and in vivo studies.
• Develop test methods to ISO and ASTM standards.
• Drive risk management in line with ISO 14971.
• Provide technical content for regulatory submissions (510(k) and EU Technical Documentation).
• Collaborate with suppliers, Manufacturing and Quality on design for manufacturability (DFM).
• Mentor junior engineers and build the team's technical capability.
• Contribute to new IP, grant applications and the innovation roadmap.

Our client is an innovative medical device company in Shannon. They're growing their R&D team and looking for a Senior R&D Engineer to lead development projects in the field of bone regeneration, including co-development work with industry partners.

This is a hands-on, high-visibility role where you'll own the technical direction of projects that feed directly into a growing new product pipeline.

What you'll be doing:

• Leading development projects end to end, from design inputs and specifications through to design transfer
• Defining and running V&V strategies, including bench testing, performance evaluation and in vivo studies
• Developing test methods to ISO and ASTM standards
• Driving risk management in line with ISO 14971
• Providing technical content for regulatory submissions, including 510(k) and EU Technical Documentation
