Job summary

Medtronic plc in Galway seeks a Senior R&D Engineering Manager to lead the PVH team’s medical device development. You will direct Galway-based engineers, drive design and development, and partner with cross-functional leaders to deliver high-impact projects.

The role is hybrid with four days on-site. Candidates should have an engineering degree (5+ years) or an advanced degree (3+ years) and proven R&D leadership in medical devices.

Qualifications

• Level 8 Degree in Engineering or related discipline with 5 years relevant experience
• Experience with people management of engineers including 1-1's, performance reviews, recruiting, disciplinaries, and career development is essential
• Prior R&D core team member experience and DRM certification is a distinct advantage
• Experience with the full product development lifecycle from concept development to product launch
• A dynamic team player and influencer and can work effectively and proactively with local as well as global cross-functional managers
• Experienced in the medical device market and have a proven result driven record of accomplishment

A Day in the Life

We are looking for a Senior R&D Engineering Manager to join our Peripheral Vascular Health (PVH) team. The PVH R&D team is working on innovative products to advance Medtronic's portfolio of products that treat patients with Peripheral and Carotid Artery Disease, End-Stage Renal Disease, Superficial and Deep Venous Diseases, and a variety of conditions treated with Peripheral Embolization. The operating unit leads the way in the Superficial Venous, Deep Venous Stenting, AV Access and Drug-Coated Balloon markets, caring for over 1.1 million patients globally with lifesaving and life-enhancing therapies. The Senior R&D Engineering manager is a functional business leader responsible for R&D engineering team to execute critical development projects. You will be accountable for engineering staff in Galway and are expected to create a high performing team culture. Additionally, you will formulate partnerships with cross-functional leaders to foster collaboration and cross-functional effectiveness. You will be the key champion in planning, directing, and coach team members. This position is hybrid with a 4 day per week onsite requirement.

A Day in The Life Of:

• Plans, directs and implements all aspects of the company's design and development of new medical device products
• Oversees the investigation and evaluation of existing technologies.
• Guides the conceptualization of new methodologies, materials, or products
• Directs the development of new concepts from initial design to market release
• Manages feasibility studies of the design to determine if capable of functioning as intended
• Monitors documentation maintenance throughout all phases of research and development
• Ensures best practices are followed and R&D participates in the coordination of activities with outside suppliers and consultants to ensure timely delivery
• Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function
• Mentor team members to ensure each team member is fully engaged and contributing to project success
• Champion product development best practices such as collecting high-quality Voice of Customer inputs, early risk burn-down and Design for Reliability and Manufacturability (DRM)
• 25% or less domestic/international travel

The final salary within this range will be determined based on objective, job-related criteria, including relevant experience, skills and qualifications, in accordance with our compensation framework.

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
