About the business unit

Mott MacDonald’s Advisory and Programme Delivery(APD) unit delivers both project, programme & commercial management (PPCM) services and advisory solutions across the built environment, defence, energy, water, environmental, transportation, health and care sectors.

We deliver tailored solutions that directly address our clients’ key challenges, combining our world-leading project expertise with unrivalled programme delivery capabilities and advisory services.

APD delivers services to projects ranging in scale and complexity up to £20bn, through the technical disciplines of programme management, project management, project controls, scheduling, cost management, estimating, infrastructure finance, management consulting, digital consulting and education, health and care management.

Environment & water

Our multidisciplinary experts help water, wastewater, and government organisations find sustainable, cost-effective solutions to the challenges of climate change, net-zero, water scarcity and environmental protection.

We work with around half of the UK’s regulated water and wastewater companies, and our work stretches across the entire project lifecycle - from pre-contract cost estimating and benchmarking, to post-contract quantity surveying and commercial assurance.

For project and programme management, we deliver capital projects on behalf of our clients, both internal and external that range from several hundred thousand pounds in value to major projects and programmes worth over £0.5bn.

Overview of the role

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will report to the Commercial Lead and take responsibility for leading aspects of commercial management on the Greater Dublin Drainage Project (GDD). GDD is a major wastewater infrastructure scheme being developed by Uisce Éireann to meet the growing demand for sewage treatment in the Greater Dublin Area. It involves the construction of a new regional wastewater treatment plant at Clonshaugh in North Dublin, along with supporting infrastructure such as a 14km underground orbital sewer, a pumping station, and an outfall pipeline that will discharge treated water safely to the Irish Sea. Designed to serve a population equivalent of around 500,000 people, the project aims to relieve pressure on existing facilities such as the Ringsend plant, which are already operating near capacity.

You will be responsible for managing the Client’s and Mott MacDonald’s obligations across various elements of the GDD project and its associated work packages. As part of the commercial and contract management function, you will work closely with the wider project team to ensure deliverables meet client expectations. You will demonstrate a strong commitment to collaborative working with client teams to deliver this complex project on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards, while maintaining a strong focus on safety.

You will also drive innovation in service delivery, providing advice to both the project team and the integrated client organisation. You will take ownership of the successful delivery of your workstreams, proactively identifying and managing project risks and opportunities. This will include effective stakeholder management, taking account of varying levels of influence and interests, and ensuring robust project governance throughout.

  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with clients, stakeholders, colleagues and the supply chain
  • Ability to demonstrate a flexible approach to work
  • Chartered MRICS (or equivalent) or working towards chartered status and a commitment to Continuing Professional Development
  • Experience in the water, environment and regulated industries
  • Ability to operate both autonomously and as a part of a larger multi-disciplinary team providing commercial support
