Coffey is seeking a highly skilled Quality Coordinator to oversee quality management on a major civil engineering project in Limerick, Ireland. Job description

About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Quality Coordinator to join our dynamic team on a large-scale design and build project. This technically demanding project offers the chance to work on diverse civil engineering and construction activities, including extensive earthworks, reinforced concrete (RC) structures, inground services and the construction of a large-scale steel portal frame building with associated cladding systems.

Key Responsibilities

As the Quality Coordinator, you will:

  1. Quality Management
    • Develop, implement, and maintain the Project Quality Plan (PQP) and associated procedures.
    • Monitor and ensure compliance with client specifications, industry standards, and legal requirements.
    • Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure all works meet the required quality standards.
    • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective/preventative actions for quality-related issues.
  2. Documentation & Reporting
    • Oversee the preparation and approval of Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), method statements, and relevant QA/QC documentation.
    • Ensure accurate recording of quality data, test results, and maintain comprehensive quality records for the project.
    • Produce detailed quality reports for project stakeholders, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  3. Collaboration & Leadership
    • Act as the primary quality representative, liaising with clients, consultants, and subcontractors to ensure project alignment for all Quality associate items.
    • Provide mentorship and guidance to the project team and subcontractors on quality requirements.
    • Participate in design and technical reviews, offering input to ensure buildability and maintainability align with quality goals.
  4. Material and Construction Oversight
    • Oversee the testing and approval of materials used in earthworks, RC structures, and steel construction.
    • Conduct on-site reviews of works to ensure adherence to specifications, including dimensional checks, material quality, and finish.
About You
Skills & Qualifications
  • Education & Certification:
    • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
    • Professional membership (e.g., Chartered Engineer, CQI Practitioner) is highly desirable.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 8+ years of experience in a quality role within the civil engineering/construction sector.
    • Proven experience with large-scale design and build projects, particularly involving earthworks, RC, and steel structures.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Thorough understanding of ISO 9001 standards and quality management systems.
    • Familiarity with geotechnical testing, concrete technology, and structural steel standards (e.g., EN 1090).
    • Proficiency in QA/QC tools, ITP preparation, and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods.
  • Skills:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an eye for detail.
    • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
    • Proficient in MS Office, AutoCAD, and quality management software tools.
