AECOM is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead delivery of healthcare and education projects across Cork and the wider Munster region. You will manage complex capital schemes from business case through design, procurement, construction and handover, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and engaging with public sector clients.

The role requires strong governance, cost and risk management, and experience with Irish public procurement.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, QS, Architecture, or related field.
  • Professional membership in a recognised institution (e.g., Chartered Engineer/Surveyor).
  • Significant experience delivering complex capital projects, preferably in construction consultancy.
  • Experience delivering healthcare/education or public sector buildings from inception to handover.
  • Strong knowledge of governance, programme management, procurement, contract admin, cost and risk.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver healthcare and education projects across Cork and Munster.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain project execution plans, budgets, risk registers, and reporting.

At AECOM, we're recruiting for a Senior Project Managerto join our growing Project Management team in Cork.

About the Role

AECOM is looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of complex healthcare and education projects across Cork and the wider Munster region.

This is an excellent opportunity for a project management professional with a strong track record of delivering capital projects, ideally within the public sector. You will be responsible for managing projects throughout their lifecycle, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, managing client relationships, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget, and to the required quality and governance standards.

The role will involve working closely with public sector clients, design teams, contractors, and specialist consultants to deliver high-quality healthcare facilities and education buildings that provide long-term value to communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the successful delivery of healthcare and education projects through all stages of the project lifecycle, from business case, planning and design through procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, developing strong and effective relationships with senior stakeholders, public sector organisations, consultants, contractors, and statutory authorities.
  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring effective collaboration across project management, cost management, design, engineering, and specialist consultancy disciplines.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain project execution plans, programmes, budgets, procurement strategies, risk registers, and reporting frameworks.
  • Monitor project performance against agreed programme, cost, scope, quality, and risk objectives, taking proactive action to address issues and maximise project outcomes.
  • Manage project risks and opportunities, ensuring appropriate mitigation measures are identified, implemented, and regularly reviewed.
  • Support and lead procurement activities in accordance with Irish public procurement legislation and relevant forms of contract.
  • Coordinate the activities of design teams, contractors, and other project stakeholders to ensure effective project delivery and resolution of issues.
  • Prepare clear and concise project reports, progress updates, dashboards, and recommendations for clients and senior management.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, environmental requirements, quality management systems, and AECOM governance standards.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of project management processes, procedures, and best practice across the wider team.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and support to project managers and junior team members, helping to develop capability and promote a collaborative and high‑performing project environment.
Qualifications

Here’s what we’re looking for:

As the successful candidate, you will have proven experience managing the delivery of complex construction projects and will possess the following qualifications, skills, and experience:

  • Degree qualification in Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • Professional membership of a recognised institution, such as Chartered Engineer, Chartered Surveyor, Chartered Builder, or equivalent.
  • Significant experience in project management and the delivery of complex capital projects, preferably within a construction consultancy environment.
  • Proven experience delivering healthcare, hospital, education, or other public sector building projects from inception through design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Strong knowledge of project governance, programme management, procurement, contract administration, cost management, and risk management.
  • Demonstrable experience coordinating and managing multidisciplinary project teams, consultants, contractors, and other key stakeholders.
  • Experience working with public sector clients and an understanding of the requirements associated with public procurement and project governance.
  • Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to monitor project costs, budgets, programme performance, and overall project delivery.
