Job summary

Abbott Ireland Vascular Division in Clonmel is seeking a Production Supervisor to lead a manufacturing team focused on vascular devices. You will guide staffing, monitor daily operations and push continuous improvements while ensuring regulatory and Quality System compliance.

The role runs Monday–Friday with A/B shifts (days and evenings). The successful candidate will hold NFQ Level 7 qualification and 4+ years related experience in manufacturing and process improvement in a regulated

Qualifications

  • Experience leading production teams and driving quality and productivity improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of employees to improve quality and productivity.
  • Plan staffing resources and coordinate with Operations Management and Planning Schedulers.
  • Develop team through training and progressively challenging tasks.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects to reduce waste and increase efficiency.
  • Interact with Quality, Engineering, HR, Supply Chain and Finance stakeholders.
  • Maintain schedules and personnel records and ensure policy compliance.
  • Provide direction and guidance to staff and mentor junior supervisors.

Purpose of the Job:

With general guidance from functional management, responsible for providing team leadership to a group of employees committed to increased quality and productivity. Supports demand of the business unit. Identifies and analyses problems, plans tasks and solutions. Provides guidance to team on development, performance and productivity issues. Reports to functional and/or organisation management on team accomplishments, achievements and productivity.

Shift pattern:

Monday to Friday (A/B shift - days and evenings)

As a Production Supervisor, your key responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Implement a staffing plan by identifying resource requirements and co-ordinating the with Operations Management and Planning Schedulers
  • Monitor daily work operations and provide support to team members
  • Develop your team through training and assigning progressively more challenging tasks
  • Develop feasibility and execute continuous improvement projects to improve efficiency or remove waste from the process.
  • Interact with key stakeholders: Quality, Engineering, Human Resources, Supply Chain, EHS, Operations Management, Finance & Operations Excellence.
  • Monitor compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Develop work schedule for department by assessing priorities, workload and available resources
  • Maintains personnel records (e.g., work schedules, vacation schedules, leaves) and makes or directs modifications in the database to reflect actual changes.
  • May perform individual contributor tasks, especially in staff or professional units.
  • Exert strong leadership influence within peer group to enhance results-orientated culture.

Education and Skills :

National Framework for Qualifications (NFQ) level 7 qualification in a relevant discipline and 4+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Technical/Business Knowledge

Monitors progress of non-exempt employees toward departmental goals; monitors costs of projects and human and material resources within a department or unit. Will perform this job in a quality system environment. Failure to adequately perform tasks can result in non-compliance with governmental regulations.

Cognitive Skills

Develops and/or identifies new work processes and the improved utilisation of human and material resources within the assigned area or related departments; facilitates others’ participation in the continuous improvement programme; investigates and solves basic problems that impact work processes and personnel within a unit or department

Influence/Leadership

Promotes department goals by selecting, motivating, and training capable staff. Leads the activities of assigned staff by communicating and providing guidance towards achieving department objectives. Mentors less experienced supervisors to build skills.

Planning/Organisation

Schedules human and material resources within a department or section in conjunction with near-term plans to ensure their availability; carries out operations within an established budget.

Decision Making/Impact

Assignments are expressed in the form of objectives; makes day-to-day decisions within established policies, procedures and guidelines and also contributes to objective setting within the operational group; consequences of erroneous decisions or recommendations might include delays in programme schedules and result in the allocation of more resources.

Supervision Received

Works under a high degree of decision-making autonomy. Work is reviewed for soundness of judgement, overall adequacy and accuracy.

Supervision Provided

Provides direction and guidance to predominantly non-exempt and entry level exempt personnel; evaluates performance of and assists in career development planning for subordinates; often responsible for a local functional or process activity.
