Job description

Our client is an Irish-owned mechanical and electrical services contractor with over 25 years of experience in providing top-quality services to clients in the industrial, pharmaceutical, public, and commercial sectors.

Your new role

We are seeking a Procurement Manager to join their team on a full-time basis. Your main responsibilities will include sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing mechanical components and equipment necessary for the company's operations. Your primary goal will be to ensure the availability of high-quality materials at the most cost-effective prices, while maintaining strong relationships with suppliers. You will collaborate with various departments, including engineering, estimating, surveying, and construction operations, to understand their requirements and contribute to the overall success of the business.

Responsibilities

  1. Supplier Management: Identify, evaluate, and manage relationships with mechanical component suppliers. Negotiate terms and conditions, including pricing, delivery schedules, and payment terms. Monitor supplier performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  2. Material Sourcing: Source and procure equipment and materials in accordance with project specifications and production requirements. Evaluate potential suppliers for quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Conduct market research to stay informed about industry trends and pricing.
  3. Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, estimating, surveying, and construction teams to understand project requirements and specifications. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on procurement strategies. Provide input on design changes and alternatives to optimise costs.
  4. Cost Negotiation: Negotiate favourable terms with suppliers to achieve cost savings without compromising quality or delivery schedules. Analyse price proposals, financial reports, and other data to determine reasonable prices.
  5. Order Management: Create and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies. Track and expedite orders to meet production and project timelines. Resolve issues related to shortages or quality discrepancies.
  6. Risk Management: Identify potential risks in the supply chain and develop strategies to mitigate them. Maintain awareness of market trends, geopolitical events, and other factors that may impact the supply chain.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience, preferably within the Mechanical Sector.
  • Excellent computer and report writing skills.
  • Desirable: Results orientation, pharmaceutical procurement experience, commercial acumen, excellent attention to detail, ability to work independently, team-oriented, innovative, and process improvement skills, good knowledge of mechanical suppliers and subcontractors.
