Process Chemical Engineer
Location: Drogheda, Co. Louth
Our client, a leading heavy industry manufacturer based in Drogheda, is seeking an experienced, hands‑on Process Chemical Engineer to join their engineering team.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for optimising plant performance, improving process efficiency, and ensuring safe, reliable, and environmentally compliant manufacturing operations. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a large‑scale continuous process environment where you'll play a key role in driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and optimise process performance using plant control systems to maximise production efficiency and plant reliability.
- Optimise kiln and clinker operations to improve product quality while reducing fuel and energy consumption.
- Analyse production and laboratory data to ensure products meet quality specifications.
- Troubleshoot process issues, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
- Lead and support continuous improvement projects, process trials, equipment commissioning, and plant upgrades.
- Support environmental compliance, emissions reduction, and sustainability initiatives.
- Promote a strong safety culture through risk assessments, safe systems of work, and adherence to HSE standards.
- Work closely with production, maintenance, laboratory, and engineering teams to improve operational performance.
- Prepare technical reports and analyse process data to support business and operational decisions.
About You
- Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Min 3 years experience in industry.
- Strong knowledge of process optimisation, troubleshooting, and process control.
- Experience analysing production data and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
- Good understanding of heat transfer, mass and energy balances, and industrial process operations.
- Knowledge of environmental compliance and health and safety best practices.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- A proactive, practical approach with the ability to build strong working relationships across the plant.
