Job summary

Orvia Underwriting in Dublin seeks a commercially minded Senior Portfolio Management Actuary to design and own portfolio monitoring across diverse P&C lines in Europe. You will build KPIs, conduct exposure analyses, support profit commissions modelling, contribute to MI pipelines, and partner with underwriting to refine risk

Qualifications

  • Qualified actuary (FIA or equivalent) with 8+ years in a P&C environment.
  • Experience building portfolio monitoring frameworks and driving underwriting performance.
  • Hands-on experience maintaining P&C performance management processes for commercial and specialty lines.
  • Experience onboarding rating tools into digital PAS applications is a plus.
  • Experience across multiple European insurance markets is a plus.
  • Programming in Python/SQL/R and familiarity with WTW software.

Orvia Underwriting (Orvia) is a new pan‑European Managing General Agent (MGA) launched by The Ardonagh Group. Leveraging Ardonagh strong distribution network, specialist talent and trusted insurer partnerships, Orvia marks an important step in the Group’s ambition to build a leading European underwriting business.

Orvia creates a single platform to combine a number of Ardonagh-owned MGAs across the London and European markets with a combined portfolio in excess of €250m GWP. Orvia focuses on developing specialist insurance products that meet the needs of clients and brokers, offering faster decisions, trusted service and seamless access to underwriting expertise across London and European markets.

We are looking for a commercially minded Senior Portfolio Management Actuary to build and own the portfolio management capability across a diverse and growing range of P&C lines of business in several European jurisdictions. This is a hands‑on, and impactful role that sits at the intersection of actuarial, underwriting, and carrier management. The right person will thrive in a fast‑paced environment, be energised by building things from scratch, and able to work well with a wide range of stakeholders.

Core Responsibilities
  • Design and build portfolio monitoring KPIs and frameworks across a diverse range of lines of business, embedding them into how the MGA runs
  • Conduct exposure and mix analyses to understand portfolio movements and their drivers
  • Perform claim frequency and severity analyses, and develop the pricing view of ultimate loss ratio
  • Assist with the build and digitisation of rating tools, working alongside underwriting and technology teams
  • Engage directly with carrier partners on all performance management topics, acting as a credible, trusted counterpart on portfolio performance
  • Support business planning, including the modelling of profit commissions and their sensitivity to performance outcomes
  • Partner with underwriting teams to refine risk appetite, translating analytical insight into practical underwriting action
  • Contribute to the development of MI, data pipelines, and reporting infrastructure as the business scales
  • Lead the build of technical price and customer propensity modelling for certain segments of the portfolio
  • Support the assessment and due diligence of inorganic (M&A and investment hiring) opportunities as the MGA grows
Requirements
What We're Looking For
  • Qualified actuary (FIA or equivalent), with 8+ years of experience in a P&C environment
  • Strong understanding of portfolio management frameworks and how they drive underwriting performance
  • Hands‑on experience building and maintaining P&C performance management processes, with a focus on commercial and specialty lines
  • Experience onboarding of rating tools into digital PAS application rating engines is a plus
  • Experience across multiple European insurance markets is a plus
  • Experience with Python/SQL/R programming as well as WTW software (EMBLEM / Radar / ResQ etc.)
