Job summary

GCS Recruitment in Cork, Ireland, is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to own and evolve our internal AI platform. You will shape core services, tooling, and the developer experience, partnering with teams adopting the platform.

You will lead the long-term technical direction, implement platform patterns, and manage the AI lifecycle from PoC to production while driving reliability and scalability across teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong Python expertise (OOP, typing, async, Pydantic).
• Experience building REST APIs using FastAPI or Flask.
• Hands-on CI/CD, DevOps practices, and Git branching strategies.
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred; AWS/GCP acceptable).
• Working knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, SQL/NoSQL, microservices.
• Strong testing discipline (PyTest, automated tests).
• Excellent communication and ability to influence across teams.
• Strong understanding of Agile delivery frameworks.

• Architect and implement solutions using Python (FastAPI/Flask) and async programming.
• Deploy and operate containerised, cloud-native solutions; CI/CD (Azure/GitHub/ArgoCD).
• Conduct code reviews, mentor engineers, and influence engineering standards.

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced Platform Engineer to help own and evolve our internal AI platform over the long term. This role is distinct from a product feature developer - you’ll work on the platform itself: its core services, frameworks, tooling, and developer experience, acting as a technical partner to teams onboarding or adopting the platform.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve core platform services, frameworks, and APIs
• Own the long-term technical direction of the platform, balancing delivery with extensibility and reliability
• Define and maintain opinionated architectural patterns, reference implementations, and golden paths for teams building on the platform
• Manage the full AI lifecycle from PoC to production - prompt engineering, context management, tool-calling optimisation, CI/CD
• Improve the end-to-end developer experience for product teams using the platform
• Build and maintain tooling, templates, libraries, and automation to reduce onboarding time
• Act as an internal technical consultant to teams adopting the platform, gathering feedback and translating it into improvements
• Build platform-level support for Generative AI and Agentic AI, enabling safe, reusable integration patterns
• Architect and implement solutions using Python (FastAPI, Flask, OOP, typing, async programming, Pydantic)
• Deploy and operate containerised, cloud-native solutions
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD)
• Conduct code reviews, mentor engineers, and influence engineering standards across teams

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field
• 5+ years' professional software engineering experience

• Proven experience building REST APIs using FastAPI or Flask
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD, DevOps practices, and Git branching strategies
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred; AWS or GCP acceptable)
• Working knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, SQL/NoSQL, and microservices
• Strong testing discipline (PyTest, automated test strategies)
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence across teams
• Strong understanding of Agile delivery frameworks

Nice to have

• Prior experience building or maintaining internal platforms, frameworks, or shared developer tooling
• Experience acting as a technical enablement or evangelism lead in a multi-team environment
• Familiarity with Spec Driven Development approaches (OpenSpec, SpecKit, Claude Code)
• Familiarity with Generative AI, Agentic AI, and LLM frameworks (LangChain, Hugging Face, OpenAI APIs)
• Understanding of deep learning concepts (transformers, attention, neural networks)
• Experience with Azure services (Cosmos DB, networking, serverless compute)
• Knowledge of DevSecOps and secure code-to-cloud practices
