Job summary

Medforce is seeking a Senior Occupational Therapist to deliver specialist OT services for older adults with Psychiatry of Later Life needs at the Cluain Lair Unit, Mullingar. The role focuses on seating and specialist equipment assessment within a complex ageing mental health population.

You will work within a multidisciplinary team, conduct comprehensive OT assessments, support care and discharge planning, and contribute to CPD and service development.

Qualifications

• Must hold a degree/diploma in Occupational Therapy and be registered with CORU.
• Significant post-qualification experience as an OT with seating and equipment provision.
• Experience in completing functional assessments for older adults.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions for older adults with Psychiatry of Later Life needs.
• Lead seating and equipment assessments including seating prescription and adjustments.
• Complete functional assessments to inform care and discharge planning.
• Plan and deliver individual and group OT interventions for Psychiatry of Later Life.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary mental health team and liaise with carers.

Senior Occupational Therapist

The Senior Occupational Therapist will provide specialist Occupational Therapy services to older adults with Psychiatry of Later Life needs within the Cluain Lair Unit, Mullingar.

This post has a particular emphasis onseating and specialist equipment assessment, reflecting the complex physical and functional needs of an ageing mental health population. The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary mental health team, delivering high-quality OT assessment and intervention while supporting mental health–focused occupational therapy practice within the service.

Responsibilities of Senior Occupational Therapist

• Provide comprehensiveOccupational Therapy assessments and interventionsfor older adults with mental health needs.
• Lead onseating and specialist equipment assessments, including:
  • Seating assessment, prescription, review and adjustment
  • Pressure care considerations
  • Postural management in collaboration with relevant disciplines
• Completefunctional assessmentsto inform care planning, discharge planning and ongoing intervention.
• Plan and deliverindividual and group-based OT interventionsappropriate to Psychiatry of Later Life.
• Contribute to mental health OT assessments, with support from senior mental health OT colleagues where required.

• Work collaboratively as part of theMultidisciplinary Mental Health Team, including nursing, medical, psychology and allied health colleagues.
• Liaise with families, carers and external agencies as appropriate.
• Provide specialist OT input and advice regarding seating and equipment to the wider team.

• Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with professional and organisational standards.
• Participate in service development, audit and quality improvement initiatives.
• Engage in continuing professional development and supervision.
• Support and contribute to student education or staff support as required.
