Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
We’re looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the development of mechanical solutions for medical power technologies. You’ll take designs from early concept through to manufacturing, combining hands‑on engineering with technical leadership and mentoring.
Working closely with engineering teams and manufacturing partners, you’ll help deliver robust, cost‑effective products that can be manufactured at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design for new technology platforms, from concept development and detailed design through to release to manufacturing.
- Develop complex mechanical solutions incorporating sheet metal, plastics and machined components.
- Investigate and resolve design and manufacturability issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.
- Support the development and integration of new technologies into manufacturing processes.
- Collaborate with manufacturing partners to optimise designs for cost, quality and production at scale.
- Ensure drawings, specifications and design documentation meet internal engineering standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers and designers.
- Contribute to design reviews, technical meetings and cross‑functional problem‑solving.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and manufacturing methods, sharing relevant insights across the team.
- Maintain accurate, organised design files, drawings and component data.
- Deliver engineering activities within agreed project schedules and budgets.
Experience and Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Typically 5–7 years of mechanical design experience, supported by strong drafting skills or equivalent practical expertise.
- A strong background in CNC machining, soft and hard tooling, and design for mass production.
- Hands‑on knowledge of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability (DFM).
- Proven experience designing, documenting and maintaining sheet metal parts, plastic components and mechanical assemblies.
Technical and Professional Skills
- Strong working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and ISO GPS standards.
- Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD, ideally SolidWorks, alongside experience using thermal analysis and finite element analysis (FEA) tools.
- Ability to manage design projects from concept through release, including scheduling and resource coordination.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with sound engineering judgement.
- Confidence defining methods and procedures for new or complex design challenges.
- Strong communication, technical leadership and mentoring skills.
Why Join?
- Work on advanced medical power technologies with practical, real‑world applications.
- Collaborate with experienced engineering teams across a global organisation.
- Influence new technology platforms from initial concept through to full production.
- Join a business that supports innovation, technical excellence and professional development.
