We are actively recruiting for a multi-site Senior Lifting Standards Manager. This is a key role to set and maintain consistent standards around our operations. This role will continue to drive best practice and standards, support, advise and govern lifting operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the implementation of lifting process and operations across all Cairn projects and act as the main point of contact for any escalation of lifting-related issues including compliance with H&S standards, in line with RAMS & Safety Method Statements
- Responsible also for development and implementation of standards in non-crane lifting activities e.g. excavator lifting, teleporters, hoists etc.
- Set and maintain a consistent standard for how lifting operations are planned, managed, and carried out across the company.
- Support Project Managers, Site Managers, Lifting Teams, Safety Officers and Site Teams with day-to-day lifting queries and more complex operations.
- Visit sites regularly to inspect lifting operations, identify issues and make sure the correct standards are being followed.
- Manage our external lifting audit and assurance programme. Organise and collect data on lifting audits and inspections, issue actions and follow up with project teams to make sure findings are closed out.
- Provide additional support and oversight for complex or high-risk lifts, including restricted-access lifts, blind lifts, tandem lifts and unusual loads.
- Advise projects on the selection, positioning and safe use of tower cranes, mobile cranes, telehandlers, hoists, and other lifting equipment.
- Responsible for ensuring that there is a robust competency framework for those involved in lifting operations. Audit the qualifications of personnel involved in the lift, prior to commencement.
- Develop and manage the delivery of lifting-awareness training, toolbox talks and practical guidance to site management and safety teams.
- Support projects during pre-construction by reviewing crane requirements, lifting methods, site layouts, component weights, and installation sequences.
- Advise Procurement and project teams when selecting crane companies, lifting contractors and specialist suppliers.
- Assessment of the lifting operation to provide such planning, selection of cranes, lifting gear and equipment, instruction, and supervision as is necessary for the task to be undertaken safely.
- Ensure that adequate inspection and maintenance of the equipment have been carried out.
- Ensure that there is an effective procedure for reporting defects and incidents and taking any necessary corrective action.
- Represent Cairn and seek best practice on external expert panels such as ILLAPG Industry Lead AP Group.
- Ensure Cairn are in line with best practice, innovation and technology and liaise with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Monitor project progress and report to senior management.
- Ensuring that there are adequate emergency rescue plans and testing of same.
- Be fully conversant with the duties of all persons involved in the lifting operation.
- Carry out training on behalf of the company to promote the discipline
The Candidate
- A minimum of 8 years in a similar role working within the construction field
- A proven track record of developing and implementation of processes and standards across a multisite environment
- Experience of influencing non direct reports and teams
- Ability to develop and drive standards across multisite and teams
- A thorough awareness of Tower Crane types, the safe specification / procurement, erection, use and dismantling of TCs/crawlers etc.
- Hands on experience of operation of cranes
- Able to plan and arrange rigging and explain in detail the process
- Must be Microsoft 365 proficient.
- AP Training essential and an ability to write lift plans and understand lift plans.
- Fully understand all relevant lifting standards such as BS7121 and IS361
- Have ability to understand CAD Drawings
- Proficient in the use of Autodesk BIM360
- Full driver licence and willing to travel as this is a multisite role
