Job summary

Rent a Recruiter in Ireland is seeking a Senior HV Electrical Engineer for our Dublin office to deliver high‑voltage design solutions for major projects across Ireland, the UK and internationally. You will collaborate with utilities and clients to ensure robust electrical designs.

This permanent role offers a hybrid working model (3 days in the office), training opportunities, and a clear path to Chartered status.

Qualifications

• Degree in engineering; ideally Chartered Engineer
• Experience in HV substation design (132kV-400kV)
• Familiarity with Irish TSO and DNO standards
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement
• Ability to lead technical workstreams and project delivery
• Experience in HV substation design 110kV-400kV

Responsibilities

• Design and owners' engineering of HV substations and grid projects
• Review HV plant layouts, earthing, interlocking, busbar calculations
• Assess detailed designs against specifications and proposed variations
• Input into contestable specification packs (SLDs, interlocking, drawings)
• Specify HV equipment and provide technical input across lifecycle stages
• Contribute to energy storage, HVDC, smart-grid projects and tendering

About the Opportunity

We are partnering with a growing and ambitious global engineering and infrastructure consultancy company, with offices across Ireland. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Senior HV Electrical Engineer to join their team at their Dublin office to play a key role in ensuring the successful delivery of innovative electrical design solutions for some of the most exciting building projects in Ireland, the UK and internationally.

Your role will include working with a range of clients/stakeholders including major utilities and large global demand customers in a rapidly changing energy sector.

Key Responsibilities

The role is a permanent position for an ambitious and enthusiastic Electrical Engineer. Reporting to the Power team Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for a range of tasks including:

• Extensive experience in design and owners engineering of high-voltage substations and grid development projects.
• Review HV plant aspects including layouts, earthing, interlocking, busbar calculations, and technical specifications.
• Review and assess detailed designs for compliance with outline design and functional specifications, including assessment of proposed amendments or variations.
• Provide input into or produce aspects of contestable specification packs (schematics, interlocking, SLDs, substation layout drawings) and provide expertise on HV cables, stations and OHL for customer projects.
• Equipment specifications for HV plant and ancillary equipment.
• Providing engineering design input to major electrical power infrastructural development projects through all lifecycle stages from feasibility and front-end engineering to detailed design, site construction monitoring and commissioning.
• Delivering projects in new technologies such as energy storage, HVDC systems, smart-grid solutions, waste-to-energy and related emerging areas.
• Supporting tendering activities and contributing to technical offers.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Qualified to degree level and will ideally be, or working towards Chartered Engineer status.
• Proven experience in HV substation design (132kV-400kV), ideally within Ireland and UK transmission and distribution environments.
• High level of Familiarity and experiences with Irish TSO and DNO standards and processes.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical workstreams and contribute to strategic project delivery.
• Experience relating to design, delivery and supervision of HV substation solutions (110kV to 400kV).
