Job summary

General Motors' OnStar SRE team in Dublin is seeking a senior Site Reliability Engineer to design scalable, fault-tolerant infrastructure and drive cloud-native platforms at scale.

You will mentor engineers, own reliability standards, and partner with cross-functional teams to improve incident response, observability with Prometheus, Grafana, and Datadog, and to automate deployment and testing across services.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in SRE, DevOps, or systems engineering with mentoring experience.
• Building and maintaining high-scale, cloud-native systems (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Expertise in container orchestration and deployment strategies using Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines.
• Proficiency in Python, Go, or Java with strong code readability.
• Experience leading cross-functional infrastructure projects and tooling initiatives.
• Ability to work under pressure and balance uptime vs cost trade-offs.
• Familiarity with privacy engineering or data security is a plus; strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support on-call practices, manage postmortems, and guide root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
• Mentor engineers and promote a culture of extreme ownership and operational excellence.
• Support privacy/compliance initiatives across connected services.

Job Description

OnStar is a cornerstone of General Motors' connected services-bringing safety, security, diagnostics, navigation, and convenience to customers through the mobile apps , website , and the in-vehicle experience , supported by a complex set of cloud services and integrations operating at global scale. To support this, we're scaling our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) organization in Dublin, responsible for keeping the OnStar product line resilient, performant, and scalable for millions of customers.

What You'll Be Doing

• Design and implement scalable, fault-tolerant, and observable infrastructure supporting OnStar mobile and web experiences, in-vehicle services, and the backend platforms and integrations that power them.
• Drive adoption of configuration management , infrastructure refactoring , and testing frameworks to strengthen system resilience.
• Partner across SRE, development, and product teams to improve service reliability , deployment safety, and incident response practices .
• Provide consultation and contribute to planning on reliability standards for new OnStar capabilities, customer-facing releases, and platform initiatives.
• Help evolve and implement an observability approach using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Datadog , with automated alerting and actionable SLO dashboards.
• Support and improve on-call practices , manage blameless postmortems, and guide root cause analysis to eliminate recurring failures.
• Mentor engineers and support a culture rooted in extreme ownership and operational excellence.
• Support compliance and privacy-driven engineering initiatives across connected services, with potential crossover into areas like data retention and safety certification tooling .

What You Bring

• 6+ years in SRE, DevOps, or systems engineering , including experience mentoring engineers and leading project-level technical work.
• Track record of building and maintaining high-scale, cloud-native systems (preferably AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Expertise in container orchestration and deployment strategies using Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines .
• Proficiency in Python, Go, or Java , with strong code review and readability standards.
• Experience leading cross-functional infrastructure projects , configuration strategy, or organizational tooling initiatives .
• Ability to think and act under pressure - whether debugging a live incident or balancing uptime vs cost trade-offs.
• Familiarity with privacy engineering , data security, or experience supporting compliance frameworks is a plus.
• Strong communication skills - able to influence, mentor, and lead across diverse technical teams.
