Job summary

The SSE plc Senior Electrical Engineer role is based with flexibility to work across locations, including Dublin. You will provide Electrical Engineering Technical Authority within Thermal Operations and Asset Management, guiding key decisions and leading major plant modifications.

You will oversee project activity from concept to commissioning, assess safety and reliability of electrical systems, and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.

Qualifications

• Chartered Engineer with extensive experience in thermal power and gas storage electrical engineering.
• Strong technical understanding of technical/commercial interactions.
• Excellent communication with stakeholders at all levels.

Responsibilities

• Provide Electrical Engineering Technical Authority within Thermal Engineering and Asset Management.
• Oversee electrical engineering projects from concept to commissioning.
• Assess electrical systems design for safety and reliability during design, construction and operation.

Job description

Base Location: You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations - Leeds, Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Dublin or Reading

Salary: £59,800 - £89,800 / €76,100 - €114,100 depending on skills and experience + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available

The role

As Senior Electrical Engineer you will report into the Electrical Engineering Manager and be accountable for providing Electrical Engineering Technical Authority within Thermal Engineering and Asset Management. You’ll work closely with key stakeholders across Thermal Operations, Commercial, Development and Business Development, and also deputise for the Electrical Engineering Manager when required.

Accountabilities

• Providing recommendations for plant modifications & upgrades, including MPPC activities and final sign offs.
• Providing specialist engineering support to operational assets and where required using electrical engineering expertise to provide go/no-go decisions for continued operation.
• Overseeing electrical engineering project activities from concept to construction and final commissioning & testing.
• Assessing electrical systems design and philosophy to ensure high levels of safety and reliable performance during design, construction and operation
• Contributing to and independent reviews of capital projects, RCAs and outage scope reviews - including final sign-offs.

Qualifications

• Engineering Chartership with extensive experience in thermal power and gas storage electrical engineering.
• Strong technical skills, accompanied by a detailed understanding of technical/commercial interactions.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently and effectively with stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
• The ability to remain calm and credible in high-pressure external situations, including providing technical advice during legal proceedings and managing conflict professionally.
• A focused and driven mind set with the capability to deliver high quality specialist technical work and provide leadership as a Technical Authority.
