Job summary

Harrington Starr is seeking a Senior Discretionary Trader to build a European Single Stock Options market-making desk from the ground up in Dublin. The role sits between discretionary and systematic strategies, owning the desk and leveraging existing infrastructure for a broad trading lifecycle.

The successful candidate will lead a build-from-scratch desk, potentially growing into Head of Desk and building a team, with ownership of P&L and a clear path to leadership.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant trading experience, ideally 7–15 years.
• Broad market-making background with pricing, quoting, flow/inventory and risk ownership.
• Strong understanding of volatility, skew, event risk, hedging and relative value.
• Experience combining market making with discretionary position-taking.
• Not exclusively systematic, quantitative research or strategy development.

Responsibilities

• Screen market making and pricing across European single-stock names.
• Manage inventory, positions and large customer/block orders.
• Trade around customer flow and take discretionary views where appropriate.
• Own single-stock options risk across volatility, skew and event risk.

Senior Discretionary Trader — European Single Stock Options | Dublin (other locations)

A well-established, privately owned proprietary trading firm is looking to hire a Senior Trader to build out a new European Single Stock Options market-making desk from the ground up.

The firm already operates both discretionary/prop and fully systematic trading strategies. This hire will sit between the two — building a broad market-making capability covering the full trading lifecycle, while having access to the firm's existing systematic and automated infrastructure.

This is a genuine build-from-scratch mandate, with the opportunity to take significant ownership of the desk and potentially grow into a Head of Desk position, including building out your own team.

What you'll be doing

• Screen market making and electronic pricing across European single-stock names
• Managing inventory, positions and large customer/block orders
• Trading around customer flow and taking discretionary views where appropriate
• Owning single-stock options risk across volatility, skew and event risk
• Hedging and identifying relative-value opportunities across the book
• Working alongside systematic/automated trading infrastructure without being confined to a purely systematic mandate

What we're looking for

• 5+ years of relevant trading experience, ideally 7–15 years
• A genuinely broad market-making background — someone who has personally priced, quoted, managed flow/inventory and owned risk
• Strong understanding of volatility, skew, event risk, hedging and relative value
• Experience combining market making with discretionary position-taking
• This isn't intended for someone whose experience has been exclusively systematic, quantitative research or strategy development
