Job summary

Musgrave Group Plc is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design and deliver scalable data solutions within a unified cloud data platform. The role blends hands-on delivery with technical leadership, ensuring production-ready pipelines and adherence to architecture standards.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering data engineering solutions in cloud data platforms.
• Strong SQL and data transformation knowledge.
• Experience designing scalable, distributed data pipelines.
• Hands-on with Azure, Databricks or equivalent.
• Knowledge of data modelling and large-scale processing.
• Exposure to structured and unstructured data.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and optimise complex data pipelines and data products.
• Lead data ingestion, transformation and processing solutions (batch/streaming).
• Translate designs into scalable, production-ready engineering solutions.
• Ensure high performance, security and reliability.
• Deliver end-to-end components and workstreams.
• Mentor engineers and promote best practices in CI/CD and deployment.
• Contribute to engineering standards and patterns.
• Collaborate with architects and PMs for delivery success.
• Troubleshoot issues and act as escalation point.

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to take a leading role in designing and delivering scalable, high‑quality data solutions, while guiding engineering standards and supporting the development of the wider team.

Reporting to the Data Engineering Manager, the roleis responsible forbuilding complex data pipelines and data products, acting as a senior technical contributor and mentor across the data engineering function.

The role combines hands‑on engineering delivery with technical leadership, ensuring solutions are aligned to architecture, optimised for performance, and built to scale.

Work location is flexible in the republic of Ireland. We have offices in Cork and Dublin. Work Smart hybrid work arrangement applies for this role. Some travel to Cork will berequired

What you'll be doing

• Design, build and optimise complex data pipelines and data products across the enterprise data platform.
• Lead the implementation of data ingestion,transformationand processing solutions (batch, micro-batch, streaming whererequired).
• Translate architectural designs into scalable, production-ready engineering solutions.
• Ensure solutions are high-performing, resilient,secureand aligned to data platform standards.
• Take ownership of end-to-end delivery of key engineering components or workstreams.
• Mentor and support Data Engineers, promoting best practices in coding,testingand deployment.
• Contribute to and evolve engineering standards, reusableframeworksand design patterns.
• Support the integration of data from multiple sources.
• Collaborate with Data Architects, Technical Programme Managers and Project Managers to ensure successful delivery.
• Troubleshoot complex issues and act as a technical escalation point within the engineering team.
• Success in the role will bedemonstratedthrough delivery of robust, scalable solutions, improved engineering practices, and strong technical leadership across the team

What we're looking for

• Strong experience delivering data engineering solutions in modern cloud data platforms.
• Expert knowledge of SQL and data transformation techniques.
• Proven experience designing and building scalable, distributed data pipelines.
• Hands-on experience with cloud technologies (e.g. Azure, Databricks or equivalent).
• Strong understanding of data modelling and large-scale data processing.
• Experience working with structured and unstructured data across complex environments.
• Ability to lead technical delivery within teams and guide junior engineers.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on performance and data quality.
• Experience with Databricks, Spark, Python or Scala.
• Experience with Delta Lake / Lakehouse architectures.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines,DevOpsand automation practices.
• Exposure to data governance,securityand data quality frameworks.
• Strong engineering mindset with focus on quality,scalabilityand reliability.
• Ability to design and deliver complex technical solutions.
• Mentoring and technical leadership capability.

Qualifications

• Third‑level qualification in IT, Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
