Job summary

Version 1 is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and platform architecture. You will collaborate with analysts, technical teams, and stakeholders to ensure data is accessible, reliable, and optimised for analytics and reporting.

The role requires strong SQL and Azure Synapse expertise, plus Python/PowerShell scripting and DevOps practices. Flexible/remote working options are available with competitive salary and benefits.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience as a Data Engineer or similar role.
• Advanced SQL experience including querying, transformation and optimisation.
• Experience with relational databases including Azure SQL.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric.
• Experience designing and supporting Azure Synapse Analytics solutions.
• Understanding of distributed data processing with Spark/PySpark.
• Experience with Azure Data Factory or comparable orchestration tools.
• Experience transforming data from CSV, JSON and structured sources.
• Automation scripting with Python or PowerShell.
• DevOps practices and deployment tools for data platforms.
• Knowledge of data modelling and Microsoft data/reporting tech including Power Platform.

Responsibilities

• Gather and document requirements to support delivery planning and solution design.
• Develop and maintain Azure Synapse data pipelines for structured and unstructured data.
• Troubleshoot and deploy pipelines using Azure DevOps and Terraform.
• Collaborate with infra teams to resolve deployment issues.
• Design physical/logical data models to support analytics.
• Apply data standards, indexing, and performance tuning.
• Define schema design, partitioning and performance approaches.
• Perform platform maintenance for performance and security.
• Implement data quality controls and version management.
• Ensure GDPR governance and data privacy compliance.
• Deliver knowledge-sharing sessions and assist users in platform use.
• Keep up-to-date with Microsoft data technologies including Fabric and migration approaches.
