Job summary

Ethos Engineering is seeking a Senior Project Engineer – Mechanical to lead design, specification and delivery of mechanical systems for retrofit projects in live data centre environments across Europe. You will manage project scope, budget and schedule, mentor junior engineers, liaise with clients and contractors and champion safety and quality across the retrofit programme.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 8 years’ experience in building services engineering, with at least 3 years focused on data centre or mission-critical projects.
• Experience in live, operational data centre environments and brownfield upgrades.
• Chartered Engineer status or working towards Chartership.
• Proven track record managing multi-million-euro MEP projects from concept to completion.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of mechanical upgrades in live data centres, including M&E upgrades and capacity increases.
• Develop retrofit design strategies, including tie-ins to live systems and outage planning.
• Conduct or oversee technical due diligence of existing facilities (power, cooling, white space).
• Prepare and review detailed design drawings, reports, and tender documents.
• Manage project scope, budget, programme and contracts; mitigate risks in live environments.
• Liaise with clients, contractors and vendors to ensure zero disruption.
• Drive QA and governance across projects per live‑environment protocols.
• Mentor junior engineers and support staff in retrofit delivery.
• Contribute to proposals and technical strategies for retrofit opportunities across EMEA.
