Job summary

Google Ireland Ltd is seeking a Power Protection and Controls Engineer for its data center engineering team in Ireland. You will define system-level architectures, lead field testing, and drive protection schemes for mission-critical facilities.

You will develop maintenance procedures, investigate renewable power integration, and collaborate with facilities teams to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance with evolving codes and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience working on critical infrastructure projects related to process improvements.
  • Experience with mission critical systems (24x7 and no-fail) and operations.
  • Master's degree in Engineering is preferred.
  • Experience writing control code and control system programming.
  • Knowledge of ETAP, SKM, PSCAD.
  • Ability to perform closed loop testing on protection and control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Define data center system-level architectures and research designs for data center equipment and facilities.
  • Conduct engineering analysis and develop maintenance procedures for systems/processes.
  • Ensure designs meet cooling, structural and operational requirements.
  • Investigate renewable power generation and carbon-free storage technologies; protect and control new energy frontiers.
  • Act as technical lead for execution and field testing teams, driving commissioning of complex protection schemes.

Job description

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience. 5 years of experience working on critical infrastructure projects related to process improvements. 5 years of experience in Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing using RTDS, OPAL-RT, or similar platforms. 5 years of experience in protection and control engineering. Experience with mission critical systems (24x7 and no-fail) and operations (e.g., power generation, data center, refinery, chip fabrication, chemical plant processing, etc.). Preferred qualifications: Master's degree in Engineering. Experience writing control code and control system programming. Experience using electrical transient analysis software such as ETAP, SKM, and PSCAD. Knowledge of IT server and network system supporting data center services. Ability to perform closed loop testing on protection and control systems.

Responsibilities Define data center system-level, product architecture, and research and development, while helping to develop operations and maintenance procedures for systems/processes.
