Job description

Senior Cost Manager – London | Cumming Group

Location: London, UK

Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time

At Cumming Group, you will work on some of the world’s most exciting construction and development projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment—where your success is measured by the impact you make.

We are one of the fastest-growing project and cost management consultancies in the United States, consistently ranked in the ENR Top 10. With over 70 offices globally, a wide-ranging portfolio across sectors, and continuous double-digit year-over-year revenue growth, your opportunities to make your mark are limitless.

About the Role

As a Cost Manager in our London team, you will deliver specialist cost consultancy and project support across complex, high-value data centre projects, from early-stage feasibility through to construction and commissioning. You will play a key role in managing project costs, procurement strategies, and commercial risk on mission-critical facilities.

Working either independently or leading a team depending on project scale, you will collaborate closely with global clients, consultants, and contractors to drive successful delivery in a fast-paced, technically demanding sector. This is an opportunity to be at the forefront of the rapidly expanding data centre market in the UK and Europe, contributing to cutting-edge digital infrastructure developments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, review, and manage detailed cost estimates and benchmarking for data centre projects across all project stages.
  • Provide strategic procurement advice, manage tender processes, and produce robust tender analysis and recommendation reports.
  • Lead client engagements, acting as a trusted advisor on commercial strategy, cost optimisation, and risk management.
  • Review and negotiate contracts, including NEC and JCT forms commonly used in the UK market.
  • Assess and manage variations, change orders, and contractor applications throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Deliver post-contract cost management, including cost reporting, forecasting, and financial control.
  • Support value engineering exercises, life cycle costing, and cost-efficiency initiatives specific to data centre builds (including MEP-heavy infrastructure).
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, cashflow forecasts, and financial reports for key stakeholders.
  • Contribute to project planning, fee proposals, and resource allocation across multiple commissions.
  • Support senior leadership with client reporting, commercial insights, and performance tracking.
  • Mentor junior team members and support their professional development.
  • Represent the business within the data centre and construction sectors, contributing to business development and industry networking.
What You Bring
  • Education: Degree in Quantity Surveying, Cost Management, Construction, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience in cost consultancy or quantity surveying, with exposure to data centre, mission-critical, or MEP-intensive projects highly desirable.
  • Professional Accreditation: MRICS, AssocRICS, or working towards chartered status.
  • Strong knowledge of UK construction practices, procurement routes, and contract forms (NEC, JCT).
  • Experience in delivering large-scale, technically complex projects—data centres, life sciences, or industrial projects preferred.
  • Understanding of construction law, commercial risk, and project delivery models within the UK market.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to manage multiple high-value projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to engage at senior client level.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with changing priorities and tight deadlines
