Responsibilities

• Lead structural and civil design across residential, commercial, industrial, healthcare, and educational projects.
• Undertake Design Certifier and Assigned Certifier duties as required.
• Prepare and review calculations, reports, specifications, and drawings.
• Design and assess steel, RC, timber, masonry and foundations.
• Manage drainage, roads, site development and infrastructure works.
• Review designs and liaise with clients, contractors and authorities.
• Attend meetings, design reviews and site inspections.
• Ensure compliance with Irish Building Regulations and Eurocodes.
• Assist with project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to business development.

Job Description

Location: Cork City, Co. Cork
Job Type: Full-Time | Permanent
Salary: €70,000 - €90,000 per annum (DOE)
The successful candidate will lead multidisciplinary projects from concept design through to completion, working closely with clients, architects, contractors, local authorities, and project teams while providing technical leadership and mentoring junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the structural and civil engineering design of residential, commercial, industrial, healthcare, and educational projects.
• Undertake Design Certifier and Assigned Certifier responsibilities where required.
• Prepare and review structural calculations, technical reports, specifications, and design documentation.
• Design and assess steel, reinforced concrete, timber, masonry, and foundation systems.
• Manage civil engineering aspects including drainage, roads, site development, and infrastructure works.
• Review and approve designs prepared by engineers and technicians.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, architects, local authorities, and multidisciplinary design teams.
• Attend project meetings, design reviews, and site inspections.
• Ensure compliance with Irish Building Regulations, BCAR requirements, Eurocodes, and industry standards.
• Assist with project planning, programme management, and resource allocation.
• Mentor and support junior engineers and technicians.
• Contribute to business development activities and client relationship management.

Requirements

• Existing right to work in Ireland.
• Level 8 Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status through Engineers Ireland or an equivalent professional body or actively working towards chartership.
• Minimum 8-10 years' post-graduate experience within the Irish engineering sector.
• Strong experience in the design of steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and foundation systems.
• Proven experience acting as Design Certifier and/or Assigned Certifier under BCAR regulations.
• Experience in drainage, infrastructure, and site development design.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and structural design software.
• Excellent English communication, report-writing, and presentation skills.
• Full driving licence.
• Strong project management and leadership abilities.
• High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Commercial awareness and strategic thinking.
