Job summary

Camunda is hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Backend for its Distributed Systems team. You will build a durable, highly available streaming platform powering Camunda 8’s orchestration cluster and support customers worldwide.

You’ll work on challenging projects like multi-Raft, SWIM-based clustering, and high-performance I/O pipelines, partnering with product, design, QA, and sales to evolve the platform at scale.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with focus on backend or distributed systems.
• Proven track record leading medium-to-large engineering initiatives (3+ months) end-to-end.
• Strong ability to work autonomously in a remote-first environment and collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services for Camunda 8’s orchestration platform.
• Lead medium-to-large initiatives end-to-end with cross-functional partners.
• Strengthen disaster recovery, multi-region and multi-tenant capabilities for cloud offering.
• Develop developer and operator tooling for complex distributed systems in production.
• Improve CI, testing, and local development workflows to reduce merge times.
• Participate in L3 support and on-call rotations with Support and SRE.
