Job summary

A leading insurance technology company is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join their innovative team. You will work in a small, collaborative environment to implement and support features that transform the insurance industry. The ideal candidate will have expertise in Git, Python, and AWS technologies, as well as the ability to prototype solutions using a variety of tools. This is a remote-first position available to candidates in the UK or Ireland, offering flexibility in work arrangements and a focus on professional development.

Qualifications

• Experience using GitHub for version control.
• Proficient in Python and related libraries.
• Familiarity with static type checking using mypy.
• Knowledge of REST APIs and OpenAPI documentation.
• Experience with Postgres relational databases.
• Able to work with Docker and docker-compose for local development.
• Experience deploying code to AWS Lambda.

Position Overview

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Cytora, you will be joining a backend functional team. The teams are small (maximum 4/5 people) and work independently. Each team has a technical lead and a product owner to steer the team to make sure we deliver the right features. Regardless of the team you join, you will prototype, implement, ship and support features that are changing the insurance industry. The core of our product digitizes risks and relies heavily on Generative AI. Our engineering and product teams are distributed across Europe.

Required Qualifications

• Git (we use GitHub)
• Python (buzzwords: msgspec, httpx, pydantic, fastapi, structlog, sqlalchemy, alembic, jinja2, pytest, ruff, mypy)
• Mypy (we use mypy, a lot. We also welcome candidates with experience with other static type checkers!)
• Rest APIs (we use openapi spec to document our apis)
• Relational Databases (Postgres)
• Docker (to package our code, docker-compose to run locally)
• AWS Lambda (vast majority of backend code is deployed as AWS Lambda functions)

Location

Cytora is a remote-first company. For this role you can be based anywhere in the UK or Ireland provided you have fluent spoken and written English, and have the permanent right to work without requiring visa sponsorship.

AI Utilization

We leverage AI tools to streamline parts of our recruitment workflow (such as resume parsing and interview scheduling). However, candidate screening, interviews, and final decisions are conducted by real humans.
