Job description

At Greyhound Recycling, we are Generous, Grounded, Optimistic and Resourceful. We want someone who takes pride in doing things properly, is honest about what they find, and keeps going when things get complicated.

About the Role

This is a hands-on, site-based role for someone who wants to build a serious career in health, safety and compliance within a fast-moving industrial environment. You will be on the ground every day: walking the site, investigating incidents, managing access, and making sure nothing gets missed.

The role sits at the intersection of three things that matter enormously to us: keeping our people safe, protecting our licence to operate, and making sure that when something goes wrong, we understand exactly what happened and why.

Security and accident investigation are the core of what you will do. If there is a road traffic collision, a bump in the yard, a near miss on the MRF floor, or a workplace injury, you are one of the first people involved. You will gather the facts, interview witnesses, document the scene, and build the investigation file. You will also oversee site access, visitor management and CCTV monitoring to ensure our facilities are secure at all times.

Responsibilities
  • Attend the scene of all workplace accidents, near misses, vehicle incidents and RTAs promptly.
  • Conduct structured investigations: scene documentation, witness statements, photographic evidence and timeline reconstruction.
  • Complete statutory notifications and internal reporting within required timeframes.
  • Identify root causes and contributing factors using recognised investigation techniques such as fault tree analysis and 5-Whys.
  • Prepare clear, factual investigation reports for management review.
  • Track corrective and preventive actions through to closure.
  • Maintain the accident and incident register, ensuring it is current and accurate at all times.
  • Lead or assist investigations into all vehicle-related incidents: RTAs on public roads, yard collisions, pedestrian near misses and loading bay incidents.
  • Liaise with fleet, operations and HR to gather driver records, tachograph data and vehicle inspection history where relevant.
  • Support insurance and legal teams with factual documentation as required.
  • Identify patterns in vehicle incident data and flag recurring risks to management.
  • Manage and monitor site access control: gatehouse procedures, visitor sign-in, contractor induction and permit-to-work compliance.
  • Monitor CCTV systems; report and **escalate** security concerns promptly.
  • Conduct regular security checks of perimeter, gates, storage areas and buildings.
  • Maintain security logs and incident records.
  • Respond to and report unauthorised access, theft or suspicious activity.
  • Assist in the delivery of toolbox talks, inductions and safety briefings.
  • Conduct routine site inspections and report findings.
  • Support the maintenance of safety documentation: risk assessments, SOPs and method statements.
  • Assist with EPA licence compliance monitoring tasks as directed by the Compliance Officer.
  • Help prepare for HSA inspections and external audits.
  • Keep records and registers up to date.
Qualifications
  • A genuine interest in health, safety and investigation. This is not a desk job.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to write a clear, factual report.
  • Confident communicating with drivers, operators and contractors on the ground.
  • Calm under pressure. Teams You need to be able to walk into a post-incident scene and take control.
  • Comfortable working outdoors and in an industrial environment in all weather.
Required Skills
  • H&S General Certificate or working towards it, or equivalent QQI qualification.
  • Experience in a waste, logistics, transport or industrial setting.

We are committed to diversity and inclusivity in our hiring practices.
