Job summary

EirGrid Group in Ireland seeks a Risk Specialist to support Enterprise Risk Management across the organisation. You will identify, assess and report risks that may affect objectives, working with business units to embed risk insights in decision making in a regulated energy environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–6 years of experience in risk management.
• Qualified to degree level or professional qualification in a relevant discipline.
• Experience in enhancing, implementing and/or overseeing risk management and business resilience frameworks.
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing abilities with credibility.
• Excellent presentation and communications skills, verbal and written.

Responsibilities

The Opportunity

The Risk Specialist plays a key role in supporting the delivery and continuous enhancement of EirGrid’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework. This role involves working across business units to identify, assess, monitor, and report risks that may impact the organisation’s ability to meet its objectives. The Risk Specialist also contributes to strategic and operational risk analysis, supports risk systems and data quality, and helps ensure that risk insights are embedded in key decision‑making processes. This position is central to maintaining regulatory compliance, operational resilience, and informed risk‑based planning in a highly dynamic and regulated energy environment.

Key Responsibilities

Risk Management Framework and Processes

• Support the application of EirGrid’s ERM framework across the organisation, ensuring consistency in risk identification, assessment, and treatment.
• Facilitate risk workshops and reviews with business units to maintain up-to-date risk registers and identify emerging risks.
• Assist in the development and periodic review of risk policies, procedures, and guidance documents.
• Promote the integration of risk thinking into strategic initiatives, operational planning, and project management.

Risk Analysis and Reporting

• Analyse risk data to produce actionable insights and contribute to the preparation of risk reports for senior management, the Executive Team, and the Audit and Risk Committee.
• Monitor trends and support analysis and testing for key business risks (e.g. energy security, data governance, regulatory change).
• Track and report on the effectiveness of risk mitigation actions and controls.
• Ensure alignment of risk reporting with corporate performance, compliance, and strategic planning processes.

Risk Systems and Data Management

• Support the design, implementation, and ongoing optimisation of governance, risk and compliance system(s), ensuring they are capable of managing GRC data and reporting.
• Support system enhancements and ensure data structures enable effective risk tracking, aggregation, and reporting.
• Maintain the integrity and accuracy of data within EirGrid’s risk management system or platform.
• Develop dashboards and visualisations to improve the communication of risk insights across the organisation.
• Ensure risks are consistently categorised, scored, and aligned with the organisation’s risk categorisation/taxonomy.
• Monitor and expedite significant risk exposures and trends.

Stakeholder Engagement and Culture

• Engage with key stakeholders across all levels to raise awareness of enterprise risk and improve risk literacy.
• Support the development and delivery of risk training materials and awareness campaigns.
• Act as a trusted advisor to business units on risk matters, encouraging proactive risk management.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve risk tools, methodologies, and reporting practices.
• Benchmark EirGrid’s risk practices against industry standards and contribute to the adoption of best practices.
• Participate in cross-functional projects and working groups to support enterprise-wide risk‑related initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills, And Experience

• Minimum of 3–6 years of experience in risk management.
• Qualified to degree level or professional qualification in a relevant discipline.
• Experience in enhancing, implementing and/or overseeing risk management and business resilience frameworks, programmes and processes.
• Skilled in stakeholder management and influencing at all levels, while maintaining strong credibility and relationships.
• Excellent presentation and communications skills, verbal and written.
• Ability to take information and present it to stakeholders in a non-complex manner
• Ability to multi-task and prioritise under pressure of deadlines, whilst working independently.
• Prior experience working in the energy industry and/or a regulated environment is helpful, but not essential.
