Brightwater Recruitment is seeking an ambitious Assistant Manager to join the expanding Risk Consulting team. The role focuses on governance, internal audit, and risk advisory services across government bodies, local authorities, and large not-for-profit organisations.

Job description

My client is seeking an ambitious Assistant Manager to join their expanding Risk Consulting team. This newly created role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to and lead governance, internal audit, and risk advisory services across a diverse client base, including Government bodies, local authorities, and large not-for-profit organisations. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality audit assignments, both financial and non-financial, ensuring timely completion from fieldwork through to draft reporting. In addition, you will supervise and mentor junior auditors throughout audit engagements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and contribute to complex and routine risk-based audit assignments, focusing on internal controls, governance, and risk management.
  • Obtain and analyse data from various client systems, conducting interviews with key personnel to assess internal controls and risk exposure.
  • Develop high-quality audit reports with clear opinions and practical recommendations addressing identified risks and control gaps, supported by well-reasoned evidence.
  • Effectively plan and manage workload to meet deadlines with consistent quality standards.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with client staff across financial and non-financial functions to facilitate audit processes.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to discuss audit findings and progress, ensuring transparency and collaboration.
  • Keep senior management informed of significant issues and any risks to project delivery.
  • Ensure all work complies with professional standards and internal policies, including those of the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor junior staff, actively participating in their performance management and development.
  • Support business development activities through proposal preparation, presentations, and networking initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Qualified Chartered Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, or equivalent professional certification.
  • Minimum of two years post-qualification experience as a Chartered Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, or similar.
  • At least four years' relevant experience in Risk Consulting or Internal Audit within public practice in Ireland or the UK.
  • Proven experience delivering internal audit work with Government Departments, State Bodies, and not-for-profit organisations.
  • Experience auditing regulated Financial Services entities is desirable.
  • Solid understanding of risk management techniques and internal audit methodologies.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to operate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
