Job summary

RRS SUPERMARKET PTE. LTD. is seeking a capable Retail Assistant Manager to work with the Store Manager in day-to-day operations, inventory control, and team leadership in a fast-paced supermarket.

You will ensure excellent customer service, maintain visual merchandising standards, handle rostering and staff development, and help drive store sales while complying with safety regulations. This role is on-site with potential for growth to Store Manager.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of supervisory experience in retail, preferably supermarket or FMCG.
• Strong communication and leadership abilities and excellent interpersonal skills.
• Proficient with POS systems and MS Office (Excel/Word).

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day supermarket operations with the Store Manager.
• Supervise, train, and motivate retail assistants and cashiers; assist rostering.
• Monitor stock levels, coordinate with suppliers, manage receiving and FIFO.
• Handle customer inquiries, feedback, and complaints professionally.
• Ensure products are well-displayed, correctly priced, and promotions executed.
• Ensure compliance with Singapore food safety NEA and workplace safety standards.

Job Description

As the Retail Assistant Manager, you will work closely with the Store Manager to oversee daily operations, manage inventory, and lead a team of retail assistants. You will play a crucial role in maintaining high standard visual merchandising, ensuring excellent customer service, and driving store sales targets.

Key Responsibilities

• Store Operations: Assist in managing day-to-day supermarket operations, including opening/closing procedures, cash management, and maintaining store cleanliness and safety standards.
• Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and motivate retail assistants and cashiers. Assist in rostering and managing staff performance.
• Inventory & Stock Management: Monitor stock levels, coordinate with suppliers, manage receiving, and ensure proper stock rotation (FIFO) to minimize wastage (especially for fresh produce).
• Customer Excellence: Handle customer inquiries, feedback, and complaints professionally to ensure a pleasant shopping experience.
• Merchandising: Ensure products are well-displayed, correctly priced, and that promotional setups are executed effectively.
• Compliance: Ensure the store complies with Singapore's food safety regulations, NEA guidelines, and workplace safety standards.

Requirements

• Experience: Minimum 1-2 years of supervisory experience in retail, preferably in a supermarket, grocery, or FMCG environment.
• Skills: Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Proficient in basic POS systems and MS Office (Excel/Word).
• Attributes: Hands-on attitude, stamina to work in a fast-paced retail environment, and a problem-solving mindset.
• Flexibility: Ability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays (5.5-day or 6-day work week schedules).
• Language: Proficient in English and Bengali due to most customers being from Bangladesh. Ability to speak other language (e.g. Mandarin, Malay, or Tamil) is a plus to communicate with diverse customers and team members.
