Job description

Tetra Tech is looking for Resident / Senior Resident Engineer – Mechanical & Electrical to shape critical water infrastructure across all regions in Ireland. Join Tetra Tech and play a key role in delivering major above‑ and below‑ground water utility projects that make a lasting difference to communities and customers.

Purpose and Scope of the Role

We are seeking Resident and Senior Resident Engineers, Mechanical and Electrical, to join our site‑based teams supporting significant water infrastructure works in Dublin and Donegal. The role focuses on the day‑to‑day monitoring of construction activities, ensuring the contractor delivers in line with the contract documents, works requirements, quality expectations and health and safety obligations.

You will spend much of your time on site, liaising with contractors, project teams and stakeholders, reviewing progress, recording performance and preparing clear technical reports and presentations for internal and external use. The projects are technically complex and high value, requiring a strong understanding of construction delivery, site supervision and contractual compliance.

Your Impact in This Position

In the short term, you will help maintain safe, compliant and well‑documented site delivery, while building strong working relationships with project teams and contractors. Over time, you will contribute to the successful delivery of important water sector projects, improve site assurance and reporting quality, and help drive consistent standards across the programme.

This role offers the opportunity to work on major infrastructure work, strengthen your technical profile and develop further towards senior delivery, site leadership or specialist advisory responsibilities. For the right person, it provides a strong platform for career progression within a business that values technical excellence, ownership and practical problem‑solving.

Core Capabilities
  • Technical Expertise in Mechanical and Electrical Delivery
  • Strong practical knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering within the water or utilities sector, with the ability to interpret drawings, specifications and contract requirements and apply sound engineering judgement on site.
  • Site Supervision and Construction Assurance – experience of monitoring contractor performance, inspecting works in progress, and confirming that delivery meets safety, quality and programme requirements, with a disciplined approach to record keeping and issue escalation.
  • Health, Safety and Compliance Focus – a detailed understanding of health and safety legislation and construction regulations, with the confidence to identify non‑compliance, challenge unsafe practices and support a safe working environment at all times.
  • Technical Reporting and Documentation – the ability to produce concise, accurate and well‑structured reports, presentations and records, supported by strong attention to detail and confident use of MS Office, particularly Excel.
  • Collaboration, Initiative and Problem Solving – a proactive and dependable approach, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams, take ownership of issues, build constructive relationships and develop practical solutions to site challenges.
Qualifications and Training

Essential: Level 8 degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; at least 7 years’ (for RE role) and at least 10 years’ (for SRE role), relevant post‑graduate experience; experience of site works supervision and monitoring of safe working practices; clean driving licence; current SafePass, Managing Safely in Construction and Manual Handling certification.

Desirable: Experience on water sector projects; experience of pipeline and treatment plant works; working knowledge of Public Works and FIDIC forms of contract; contractor design review experience; advanced MS Excel capability.

Working Patterns and Locations

These roles are primarily site‑based and support projects across the East, South East, South West, Midlands and North West of Ireland. You will be expected to spend most of your time on site, working closely with construction teams and stakeholders.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

In alignment with the Equality Act 2010, we will make reasonable adjustments to support candidates and employees requiring additional arrangements. This could include adaptations to work schedules, training approaches or the physical workspace.
