Job summary

Barden is supporting a global biotechnology client in Cork to recruit a Research Associate to perform and document scientific experiments for their commercial and clinical product portfolio.

The role involves executing defined procedures under supervision, learning core bioprocess techniques, conducting daily mammalian cell culture, bioreactor monitoring, data entry, and maintaining GLP-compliant documentation. Strong collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering (or higher).
  • Minimum 1 year of pharmaceutical industry or equivalent lab experience.
  • Desirable understanding of microbial cell expansion and fermentation processes.
  • Desirable understanding of downstream purification and cGMP for Biologics.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, execute defined procedures to support studies and investigations in a multi-product lab.
  • Learn and apply core scientific techniques and SOPs; follow BPDs to resolve issues.
  • Maintain accurate, reproducible data entries and comply with GLP and SOPs.
  • Perform daily mammalian cell culture expansion and bioreactor monitoring including sampling and in-process analysis.
  • Generate, review and share raw data with peers and project leads.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date documentation and archiving in compliance with GLP.

Barden is delighted to be supporting our global biotechnology client, in their search for a Research Associate at their state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Cork.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The key function of the Research Associate will be to perform & document scientific experiments in collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders in support of their commercial & clinical product portfolio.

What You will Do:
  • Under close supervision of scientists, project and functional leads execute defined procedures to support studies and investigation activities with lab scale upstream processes in the multi-product lab.
  • Learns core scientific techniques quickly and demonstrate understanding of core scientific principles and protocols (including batch, fed-batch and perfusion processes).
  • Identify routine experimental issues and follows SOPs and BPDs to resolve them.
  • Produce accurate, reproducible data entries and maintains laboratory quality through adherence to safety and SOPs.
  • Perform daily mammalian cell culture expansion and bioreactor monitoring, including bioreactor sampling and in-process analysis utilizing standard bioprocess analytical equipment.
  • Generate, review and share raw data with peers and project leads.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of laboratory work carried out including documentation storage and archiving in accordance with GLP.
  • Support maintenance of lab instructions, BPDs, SOPs, templates.
  • Support maintenance and calibration of lab equipment with accompanying documentation.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of new equipment.
  • Play an active role in maintaining and enhancing the safety of the workplace and the laboratories.
  • Comply with applicable GxP regulations, SOPs, HSE, & other guidelines in the laboratory as applicable.
ABOUT THE PERSON:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Science or Engineering
  • A minimum of 1 year experience in the pharmaceutical industry or equivalent strong laboratory experience.
  • Understanding of microbial cell expansion and fermentation process execution is desirable.
  • Understanding of downstream purification process is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of pharmaceutical regulatory requirements appropriate to level and understanding of the cGMP manufacturing process for Biologics.
