Job summary

Block Labs in Ireland is hiring an AI Engineer for the Intelligence team to build production-grade governed AI agents and the data platform powering real business decisions. You will ship end-to-end analyst and customer-facing agents, implement RAG workflows, and ensure security and auditability across the stack.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in software, data science, or machine learning engineering, including 1+ years building LLM-powered agents in production: tool use and function calling, structured outputs, retrieval and memory, and multi-step orchestration with frameworks such as LangGraph or the Anthropic Agent SDK.
• Have shipped a production RAG system and can discuss grounding, retrieval quality, hallucination control, and when to refuse to answer.
• Treat customer-facing agents as an attack surface and defend against prompt injection, tool-call abuse, and data leakage.
• Production ML lifecycle ownership: feature engineering, training, serving, monitoring, and retraining; fraud/risk/abuse detection is a strong signal.
• Statistical rigour: experiment design, holdouts, uplift measurement, and score calibration.
• Evaluation discipline for non-deterministic systems: built evaluation harnesses and regression suites.
• Strong Python for production services, TypeScript for surfaces, and SQL skills on columnar databases (ClickHouse preferred).
• Able to present work to stakeholders through review queues, dashboards, and internal apps.
• Experience designing systems where model outputs feed deterministic execution with LLM observability and tracing.

Responsibilities

• Build and productionise analyst and customer-facing AI agents: Slack-native or web interfaces, guarded with validation and monitoring.
• Develop risk-aware tool layers and governance around autonomous actions.
• Implement RAG pipelines with versioned knowledge bases and abort-and-escalate fallbacks.
• Design dashboards and surfaces for business visibility, including auditability and explainability.
