Job summary

Uniting Holding is seeking a Relief Support Worker in the New Ross area to help individuals with intellectual disabilities live fulfilling and independent lives. The role requires at least 6 months of relevant experience and a QQI Level 5 qualification. You will provide personal care, assist with daily routines, and promote the wellbeing and dignity of residents.

Qualifications

  • Min. 5 modules of QQI Level 5 in Health Care Support or relevant qualification.
  • Minimum of 6 months’ work experience with individuals with intellectual disabilities.
  • Must hold a full clean driving licence valid in Ireland.
  • Proficient in both oral and written English.

Responsibilities

  • Support residents with daily living activities.

  • Administer medication in line with prescribed guidelines.

Relief Support Workers

Location: New Ross area, Co. Wexford

Contract Type: Casual

About the Role

As a Relief Support Worker, you will support residents with intellectual disabilities to live fulfilling, independent lives. You will help with personal care, daily routines, and social activities, while promoting choice, dignity, and wellbeing.

Role Requirements
  • Min. 5 modules of QQI Level 5 in Health Care Support / Social Care completed and currently undertaking remaining modules or currently undertaking BA/BA (HONS) in Applied Social Studies in Social Care/ Nursing (year 2) or other relevant qualification
  • A minimum of 6 months’ work experience working with individuals with intellectual disability/complex needs a distinct advantage
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, nights on a relief basis based on the needs of the service
  • Must hold a full clean driving licence valid in Ireland and be willing to drive company vehicles
  • Proficient in both oral and written English language
  • Have the legal right to work in Ireland and currently hold valid work authorisation for Ireland
  • Good IT and report writing skills

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support the Person in Charge with all aspects of the effective running of the residential service
  • Facilitate and implement a person‑centred approach for residents appropriate to their wishes and goals
  • Support residents with activities of daily living including personal care, mobility, meals, social activities, and household tasks
  • Facilitate, encourage and develop each resident’s choice and decision‑making skills, ensuring the resident and their representatives are actively involved in the decision‑making process
  • Ensure that communication is adapted to meet individual needs, including the use of alternative and augmentative communication methods where appropriate
  • Enable each resident to pursue and maintain their individual hobbies and interests and facilitate residents to actively participate and integrate into the community
  • Support develop the self‑help and social skills of each resident enabling them to maximise their independence and control
  • Ensure the best possible health and wellbeing of residents in all areas of their lives, including health and personal care; monitor wellbeing and report concerns or changes in health status to relevant staff
  • Administer medication in line with prescribed guidelines and organisational procedures
  • Be familiar with and ensure that policies, procedures, and codes of practice of the Services are adhered to
  • Be responsible for all aspects of Health and Safety of service users and staff and compliance with Health and Safety legislation, ensuring reporting and recording of incidents meet the service standards and participate in incident reviews or other investigations
  • Be responsible for the safe use and care of equipment and report faulty equipment etc. as it arises
  • Be familiar and operate to fire regulations and emergency procedures and participate in the implementation of same
  • Ensure that all records in relation to individuals supported by the services are up to date, correctly filed and managed as per the service’s records management system
  • Manage risk in a systematic way that is embedded in a culture of safety, welfare and quality of life for residents; report all accident/incidents and take appropriate action
  • Be fully familiar with safeguarding procedures; report concerns or incidents in line with organisational and legal requirements
  • Participate in incident reviews, audits, and quality improvement processes
  • Ensure that all petty cash and the personal monies of the residents are properly accounted for, keeping relevant records and ensuring that accounts are checked and balanced
  • Ensure the homes of the residents are clean, comfortable and report any maintenance issues
  • Attend and participate fully in regular staff meetings, supervision sessions with a view to maintaining high standards and contributing to ongoing team development
  • Deal with confidential information in a discreet and responsible manner in line with GDPR and internal protocols
  • Report all matters of concern immediately to the Person in Charge
  • Attend mandatory and specific skills training courses as scheduled
  • Provide cover as agreed
