Job summary

Anderson McQue is seeking an HVAC & Refrigeration technician to provide high‑quality service, maintenance and technical support for industrial systems on a biopharmaceutical site. The role involves diagnosing faults, performing repairs, commissioning equipment, and recommending upgrades to enhance asset reliability and energy efficiency.

Applicants should have at least 3 years of hands‑on experience in HVAC or building services, plus a F‑Gas Category 1 qualification.

Qualifications

• Essential: minimum 3 years hands‑on experience with HVAC or mechanical building services in service, maintenance, or commissioning roles.
• F-Gas Category 1 qualification or equivalent is required.
• Solid understanding of HVAC engineering including air handling, ventilation, dehumidification, heat transfer, and controls.
• Proven ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and control faults.
• Experience with industrial refrigeration systems such as standalone fridges/freezers, incubators, stability chambers, and blast freezers is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality service, maintenance and technical support for HVAC systems (AHUs, chillers, heat pumps, dehumidification, ventilation) per standards.
• Diagnose mechanical and control-system faults; perform corrective actions, part replacements and adjustments to restore performance.
• Recommend replacement parts, upgrades and refurbishment options to improve asset reliability and energy performance.
• Maintain, repair and commission the full range of HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
• Ensure customer facilities meet contract requirements and assets operate effectively.

Job description

This position will be based on a biopharmaceutical site on behalf of our client, a multinational and multicultural company which provides great career progression opportunities to the right person.

Daily Tasks:

• Provide high-quality service, maintenance, and technical support for HVAC systems, including AHUs, chillers, heat pumps, dehumidification systems, ventilation plant, and associated mechanical equipment, in line with industry standards and safety regulations.
• Diagnose mechanical and control-system faults, carrying out corrective actions, component replacements, and adjustments to restore system performance and efficiency.
• Recommend suitable replacement parts, upgrade options, and refurbishment solutions to support long-term asset reliability and energy performance.
• Responsibility for the maintenance, repair, and commissioning of the full range of HVAC and Refrigeration equipment.
• Ensure that all customer facilities and services are made available within the requirements of the contract specification, and ensure assets are operating effectively.

Qualifications and skills:

• Relevant refrigeration qualification, e.g., F-Gas Category 1 or equivalent.
• Strong technical background in commercial or industrial cooling systems.
• Minimum 3 years' hands‑on experience working with HVAC or mechanical building services systems in a service, maintenance, or commissioning capacity (essential).
• Solid understanding of HVAC engineering, including air handling, ventilation, dehumidification, heat transfer, and system controls.
• Proven ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and control-related faults.
• Competent in the use of diagnostic instruments for airflow, pressure, moisture content, temperature, and system performance measurement.
• Experience working on Industrial refrigeration systems such as stand‑alone fridge/ freezers, incubators, stability chambers, and blast freezers.
• Experience working in ATEX areas (desirable).
• Previous experience of API pharmaceutical Industry (desirable).
• Previous experience working on Ammonia refrigeration systems (desirable).
