Job summary

DesignBuild Search is partnering with a leading engineering and construction consultancy to recruit a QS/Cost Manager for their Galway office. The role covers a varied mix of projects across infrastructure, urban, residential and retail sectors.

The successful candidate will have a degree in construction economics or quantity surveying and at least seven years of PQS experience, with strong interpersonal and communication skills and proven cost management capabilities.

• Degree in construction economics or quantity surveying.
• 7+ years’ PQS experience

Responsibilities

• Analyse blueprints for time, cost, materials and labour vs estimates.
• Handle all QS duties including measurements, valuations and work-section agreements.
• Experience in project management.
• Competent in estimating packages and MS Excel/Word.
• Consult with clients, vendors and supervisors on cost.
• Monitor costs from vendors/subcontractors and manage variances.
• Prepare cost reports and compare against bids as project progresses.
• Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems.
• Assess cost effectiveness of products and projects.
• Conduct studies to establish standard hours and cost data for reductions.

DesignBuild Search are working with a leading engineering and construction consultancy. Due to growth, across Ireland they have an opening for a QS/Cost Manager in their Galway office. The successful applicant will be involved in a varied mix of projects across different sectors.

Scope of Projects:

Infrastructure

Urban

Residential

Retail

Minimum:

Degree qualified in construction Economics or Quantity Surveying.

7+ years’ PQS experience

Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills

Roles and responsibilities:

• Analyse blue prints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials and labour costs vs estimates.
• All quantity surveying duties including measurements, valuation and agreement of work sections
• Experience in project management
• Competent in all forms of estimating packages, Microsoft excel and word
• Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or construction manager/supervisors to discuss cost.
• Monitor cost from vendors or subcontractors, explores variances, managing issues in conjunction with manager, deals with cost overseas and recovery.
• Reports on actual costs and examines estimates used by management for purpose such as planning, organising and schedule work.
• Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project manager.
• Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
• Set up cost monitoring and reporting system and procedures.
• Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost date to be effective on cost reduction.
