POSITION SUMMARY
Our client is a leading Irish food company with manufacturing sites across Ireland and the UK. It supplies fresh and value-added protein products to retail and foodservice customers, under both private label and its own well-known brands. The Quality Manager joins the site's technical team and plays a key role in making sure products meet the highest standards of safety, quality and compliance. The role owns audit readiness, customer specifications and complaint investigations, works closely with the Department of Agriculture (DAFM), and leads and develops the site's Technical and QC team. It suits an experienced food quality professional with people management experience who wants to make a real impact in a fast-paced production environment.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
- Champion and maintain compliance with regulatory, BRCGS, TFMS, MPQAS and customer standards.
- Support and strengthen the Food Safety Management System, ensuring it stays effective.
- Work closely with DAFM representatives, attending weekly meetings and resolving issues promptly.
- Support the traceability programme, ensuring timely and accurate responses to customer requests. Audits
- Prepare for and support customer, regulatory and accreditation audits, keeping the site audit-ready at all times. Specifications and customers
- Manage and maintain customer product specifications, including through the group specification system.
- Work with commercial, sales and production teams to develop specifications for new products.
- Monitor and report on customer KPIs, driving corrective actions where needed. Complaints and non-conformances
- Lead and support investigations into customer complaints, with robust root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Drive excellence in handling internal and external non-conformances. People and improvement
- Support, guide and mentor members of the Technical and QC team.
- Contribute to continuous improvement projects across the site.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong knowledge of HACCP, BRCGS, GMP, TACCP, VACCP and EU food safety regulations.
- Experience managing audits and liaising with external stakeholders, including regulators and customers.
- Proven track record in food safety compliance and quality systems management.
- Confident leading investigations and driving corrective actions to closure.
- Qualification in Agricultural Science, Food Science, Food Technology or a related discipline.
- Experience in a similar quality role within food manufacturing.
- Knowledge of animal welfare standards (a distinct advantage).
- QQI Level 6 Advanced HACCP certification.
- Experience in a meat processing environment under DAFM supervision.
