Job summary

Protea Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced Quality Manager for an established food manufacturing site in Ireland. You will lead the QA team and drive food safety and quality standards across the site, collaborating with Production, Commercial and Product Development functions to meet customer and regulatory requirements.

Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quality Manager to join a well-established food manufacturing business.

This is a key leadership role responsible for driving food safety, quality and technical standards across the site while leading a dedicated Quality Assurance team.

Working closely with Production, Commercial and Product Development teams, you will ensure products, processes and systems consistently meet customer, legal and company requirements while promoting a culture of continuous improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, coach and develop the Quality Assurance team.
  • Champion a positive food safety and quality culture across the business.
  • Maintain, develop and continuously improve the site's Quality Management System.
  • Ensure compliance with Irish and EU food legislation, customer requirements and recognised industry standards.
  • Manage and maintain HACCP systems.
  • Plan and lead the internal audit programme, ensuring corrective and preventative actions are completed.
  • Lead customer, certification and regulatory audits.
  • Work closely with Production, Commercial and Product Development teams to ensure products meet food safety, quality and customer requirements.
  • Manage supplier approval processes and supplier quality performance.
  • Investigate customer complaints, non-conformances and quality incidents, carrying out root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  • Monitor industry developments and emerging food safety risks.
  • Analyse quality performance, identify improvement opportunities and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical guidance and support across the business.

ABOUT YOU

  • Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Quality Management or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Significant experience in a senior Quality or Technical role within food manufacturing.
  • Proven experience leading and developing Quality Assurance or Technical teams.
  • Strong knowledge of HACCP, food safety management systems and food legislation.
  • Experience within an FMCG food manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading customer, third-party and regulatory audits.
  • Knowledge of IFS Food, BRCGS or equivalent food safety standards.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
  • Strong problem-solving ability with experience implementing corrective and preventative actions.
  • Ability to influence and build relationships across all levels of the business.
