CoAction West Cork are looking for a Psychology Assistant to cover the West Cork area. This is a fixed term part-time position.

Please note that a 12 month panel may be formed from these interviews from which future permanent, temporary, part-time or full-time vacancies may be recruited for.

Job Description

This job description indicates the main functions and responsibilities of the post and is subject to review and amendment in light of changing circumstances and may include other duties and responsibilities as may be determined from time to time by the Director of Services/CEO or designed Line Manager. You will be given as much notice as possible.

Responsible to: Head of Psychology/Principal Psychologist

Base: You will be providing comprehensive psychological services within the West Cork catchment area. Your base will be in West Cork.

Overall Purpose of Position:

The Assistant Psychologist will work as part of an interdisciplinary team under the direct supervision of the Head of Psychology/Principal Psychologist. It is expected that they will respect the principles and ethos of the organisation and adhere to the professional guidelines as laid down by the Psychological Society of Ireland.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Carry out a range of psychological assessments as required.
  • Complete psychological reports.
  • Liaise with clients and their families as appropriate with regard to assessments, outcomes, interventions and reviews.
  • Actively participate in relevant CoAction meetings e.g. psychology meetings, area meetings, person centred planning etc. as appropriate.
  • Provide or assist in the provision of training to staff and parents.
  • Work as part of the interdisciplinary team and be involved in team assessments and team interventions.
  • Liaise with other professionals and organisations as appropriate and represent the organisation at meetings, seminars, conferences, etc.
  • Keep records and submit reports as may be required by Head of Psychology/Principal Psychologist and/or Director of Adult Services.
  • Be proactive in the planning of supervision meetings and come prepared for these.
  • Take responsibility for ongoing professional development in conjunction with the Head of Psychology/Principal Psychologist and/or Director of Adult Services.
  • Keep up to date with best practice procedures and at all times work within the parameters of the professional Code of Ethics as laid down by the Psychological Society of Ireland and within the ethos of CoAction West Cork.
General Particulars:
  • This is a 28 hour per week post
  • Annual Leave – 25 days (pro rata)
  • Remuneration: The remuneration for this post will be based on the salary for a Psychology Assistant. The current salary range for this position is: €30,623 based on a full time 35 hour week.
Other Requirements:
  • Each candidate must have their own means of transport and a full driving licence.
  • If being processed for appointment, original documentation will be sought for all qualification requirements for the post and any additional qualification(s) that you may be awarded marks for at interview. In the event that a number of years experience is required for a post, you will be requested to provide documentary evidence that you possess same. If you are the holder of a non-Irish qualification, please note that in order to be appointed, your qualifications must be verified by the Psychological Society of Ireland.
  • Located in or able to travel to areas around West Cork.
