Job summary

Turner & Townsend is seeking an experienced Utilities Interface Engineer in Ireland to coordinate interface management between project teams and utility contractors. The role focuses on enabling works through to delivery, ensuring compliance with licenses and contractual obligations.

You will engage with multidisciplinary stakeholders, manage risks, monitor contractor performance, and support best-for-project delivery.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years' experience in project management in a complex multidisciplinary environment.

Job Description

The Utilities Interface Engineer is responsible for co-ordinating the supporting works of the programme from Enabling Works through to final Delivery. The role holder supports design and engineering engagement with technical stakeholders, ensuring consents & licenses, legal agreements and Commercial discharge of obligations throughout the lifetime of the programme are completed in a timely collaborative manner that supports the programme. The role facilitates teamwork and managing key risks associated with technical stakeholders to enable the delivery of the programme.

A key part of this role will be to build relationships both internally and externally and work collaboratively on a best for project basis with the Enabling Contractors, the Advance Works Engineering Designer, Project Archaeologists and Project Conservation Architect to ensure timely delivery of the works. The role holder will develop relationships with stakeholders and ensure compliance with industry regulations and best practices. They will also monitor contractor performance and drive efficient performance throughout the works, The role facilitates team work and collaborates with the integrated team to ensure the successful execution of delivery activities, by focusing in fostering ad collaborative and productive team environment.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Supports the management of the interfaces between the project and Utilities contractors contributing to optimal development and program set up for successful procurement, delivery and commissioning of the programme.
  • Assists the delivery of the Utility Contracts from tender through to completion in collaboration with the designers, contractors and programme team
  • Collaborates within a large multi-disciplinary team of internal resources and external advisors to develop details plans and schedules for the proposed utility works
  • Ensure adherence to contractual specifications, industry standards and regulatory requirements to deliver high quality utility works
  • Identify, assess and mitigate any potential risks associated with the Enabling and Main Works
  • Supports the management of contractors including delays, cost overruns and technical challenges
  • Ensure communication interfaces are professionally managed and assist in communications by providing programme and technical information to the team as required.
  • Engage with third party utility stakeholders as per the third-party agreements, co-ordinating all required permits, consent and approvals, taking measures to maintain effective relationships throughout the project with Contractors.
  • Co-ordinate design and construction interfaces to third parties, including handover of the works with the main infrastructure contract and other enabling contracts, including commissioning programmes with the utility providers.
  • Provide input and solutions which allow for minimal third-party impact, whilst maintaining commercially effective project delivery.
  • Organise and participate in both internal and external stakeholder meetings to discuss project progress and address any concern.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to integrate technical requirements into the overall project programme.
  • Maintain effective communication with stakeholders, including subcontractors, suppliers, government, agencies and community representatives as well as managing any issues ensuring that they are dealt with quickly and efficiently.
  • Advocate collaboration, integration and continuous improvement among multidisciplinary programme teams and stakeholders, taking advantage of opportunities as they arise.
  • Maintain compliance with planning and programme policies across all related project activities.
  • Promote an equitable, inclusive, accessible, and diverse workplace.
  • Promote a proactive safety and sustainability culture.
  • Perform additional tasks, activities or other duties as may be required or assigned as part of the role throughout the programme
Experience
  • 5+ years' experience in relevant project management capacity, in a complex multidisciplinary environment.
  • Experience working with infrastructure and utility works a benefit
  • Experience in quality assurance processes to ensure that project deliverables meet the required standards.
Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to facilitate clear and consistent dialogue between all parties involved.
  • Ability to effectively engage with and manage relationships with various stakeholders, including customers, regulatory bodies, and internal teams.
  • Accomplished communicator with the ability to demonstrate the capability of working on his/her own initiative.
  • Ability to make decisions on construction projects.
  • Proficient in gathering, documenting, and analysing project requirements to ensure they align with customer and operational needs.
  • Expertise in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with the project.
  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and ensure cohesive project delivery.
  • Ability to identify issues and develop effective solutions to keep the project on track.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and environments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and relate to individuals and groups – both technical and non-technical.
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills.
Qualifications
  • Degree or 3rd level professional qualification (NFQ Level 8 or equivalent) in relevant subject area e.g., engineering, construction, project management, stakeholder management, communications.
  • APM, SCSI / RICS, CIOB, IEI or similar
