The passing of the Child Care (Amendment) Act 2022 established a new Guardian ad litem National Service as an Executive Office of the Department in January 2025. With key leadership appointments made and an implementation plan being developed to ensure the service is ready for commencement in 2026. The principal aim of the Guardian ad litem National Service will be to realise the rights of the child through providing a high quality, standardised service to all children and young people in Ireland who are the subject of public child care proceedings.
