Job summary

Merchants Quay Ireland is seeking an Addiction Counsellor to work within the Irish Prison Service at Wheatfield Prison. The role involves direct delivery of counselling to prisoners with drug and/or alcohol problems, including one-to-one and group work, under the IPS service level agreement.

Accredited counsellor with ACI/IACP and a relevant degree is required, with at least two years in addiction services.

Qualifications

• Two years experience in an addiction service or similar setting.
• Accredited counsellor with ACI, IACP or equivalent body.
• Relevant third level qualification in addiction studies or social care.

Responsibilities

• Direct delivery of counselling services (one-to-one and group) in prison.
• Operate within professional guidelines and ethics.
• Develop comprehensive care plans with multidisciplinary teams.
• Deliver substance use interventions (CBT, CRA, Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction).
• Provide information and statistics, attend meetings, and support health promotion.
