We are looking for an ability to make decisions around tooling, database selection and design, and then general web development building.

Experience and skills we need:

  • A minimum of five years of software development experience in a commercial environment.
  • Experience working in Python or React.JS and AWS.
  • Experience in providing technical leadership to software engineers in the delivery of a feature set or enhancements of enterprise scale.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in agile software delivery and of DevOps as part of the SDLC.
  • Experience in partnering closely with Product Owners and customer stakeholders to deliver software solutions.
  • Extensive coaching and mentoring experience, including implementing engineering excellence best practices.
  • Experience in identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives in the SDLC.
  • Experience in technical communication with peers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of and exposure to the Well-Architected Framework.

Experience and skills we’d love:

Below is an overview of the skills and experience we’d like you to have. However, don’t rule yourself out if you aren’t ticking all the boxes – a great attitude and desire to learn is what really stands out for us.

  • Experience in working with and promoting a product mindset.
  • Knowledge of and exposure to coaching frameworks.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead an agile team of Software Engineers to achieve their goals, and, with support from the Leadership and Support team, define the team’s path to get there. Coach and mentor team members utilizing suitable coaching frameworks.
  • Own complex use cases or tasks. Design and code solutions working with the most suitable programming language, technologies, tools and frameworks.
  • Contribute to the overall architecture through designing, documenting and implementing high quality, secure solutions and enhancements that satisfy the customers' problems or requirements.
  • Facilitate engineering excellence across the team through coaching and mentoring on best practices, defining and implementing team coding and testing standards, and creating accountability among all team members in relation to security and testing practices.
  • Oversee the technical delivery roadmap and proactively identify blockers or challenges to successful delivery in processes, tooling, deployment pipelines, or similar. Work with the team to resolve identified challenges.
  • Regularly partner with the Product Owners to own backlog prioritization, set delivery goals and manage dependencies across stakeholders, customers and integration partners.
  • Promote a product-focused mindset with your team and stakeholders.
  • Encourage team-wide experimentation with new practices or technology. Introduce suitable new practices or technologies to ensure your team delivers the best possible solution in line with your customer’s needs and required timeframe.
  • Grow your knowledge of architecture and design best practices.
  • Supported by the leaders across Liberty IT, seek opportunities to share and celebrate what you and your team have achieved through internal tech talks, blogging, and external events.
