Job description

Job Description
Overview

AtkinsRéalis is one of the world’s leading providers of environmental and engineering professional consulting and support services with offices across Ireland. We are now seeking a Principal Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Consultant to join our Environment Team in either our Dublin or Galway offices.

Our purpose, within AtkinsRéalis, is to engineer a better future for our planet and its people. As we grow and expand our business we are looking for ambitious, motivated, experienced and insightful team players, who aspire to become future leaders within AtkinsRéalis.

As a Principal EIA Consultant, you will play a pivotal leadership role in shaping some of Ireland's most significant infrastructure and development projects. You will lead multidisciplinary teams including third party specialist consultants in delivering high-quality Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIARs), influencing project outcomes from early strategy through to planning and consent.

You will act as a trusted advisor to clients, regulators, and project stakeholders, bringing technical excellence, commercial awareness, and strategic insight to every stage of project delivery.

This is more than a project delivery role. It is an opportunity to influence nationally important infrastructure programmes, work alongside industry-leading experts, contribute to a more sustainable future, to mentor and build a team and develop your career within one of the world's most respected engineering and environmental consultancies.

Your role
  • Leading the successful delivery of complex and high-profile EIARs and environmental assessment programmes, often within challenging timeframes and on nationally significant projects.
  • Driving collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, working closely with project managers, planners, engineers, technical specialists, 3rd party consultants and clients to deliver integrated and innovative environmental solutions.
  • Highly capable in organising, managing and delivering large / strategic EIARs, as well as non-statutory environmental reports.
  • Responsible for motivating, mentoring and providing guidance to staff on our Environmental Team.
  • Demonstrate excellent project management skills, including technical delivery, management of finances, client liaison and programme delivery.
  • Acting as a senior client-facing representative, building trusted relationships with clients, regulatory authorities, stakeholders, and delivery partners.
  • Leading project governance and commercial performance, including technical delivery, financial management, programme oversight, and quality assurance.
  • Contributing to the growth of the business through the preparation of winning proposals, major tenders, and strategic pursuits across the infrastructure, transport, energy, and water sectors.
  • Leveraging the expertise of AtkinsRéalis' extensive network across Ireland, the UK, and internationally to bring innovative thinking and world-class environmental solutions to our clients.
  • Championing technical excellence by reviewing and approving EIARs, ensuring compliance with Irish and EU environmental legislation, and embedding industry-leading best practice across project delivery.
  • Playing a key role in driving the continued growth and reputation of our Environmental Team as a trusted leader in environmental assessment and sustainable development.
About you
  • Degree qualified in a relevant science/environmental engineering subject (e.g. environmental science, sustainability, air and climate, noise, geology, hydrogeology etc.).
  • Masters qualified in a relevant specialism preferred, but not essential.
  • Relevant years of recent experience, specifically in the preparation and coordination of EIAR and non-statutory environmental reports, within a consultancy environment, for major / complex infrastructure projects.
  • Chartered Membership of relevant professional body is desirable.
  • Demonstrable experience in the recent delivery of EIARs for different types of projects (road, rail, energy, water etc.).
  • Excellent working knowledge and demonstrable understanding of relevant EU and National planning and environmental legislation, and technical guidance and industry standards / best practice, in relation to the preparation of EIARs.
  • Proven track record in technical report writing and ability to complete technical reports to required best practice standards.
  • Proven track record in project management of major environmental projects and development of bids.
  • Proven track record of providing technical quality assurance for major environmental and planning deliverables and managing and mentoring environmental consultants / early careers consultants.
