The Principal Cloud Engineer – Data Infra will implement and manage data infrastructure on the Azure cloud supporting complex analytical pipelines. The focus for this position will be the design, development and maintenance of the data architecture components (including ETL data pipelines) required to ingest data from sources (cloud and on-premises) and expose data for value stream products. You should be familiar with data products and compute choices in the public cloud eco-system and understand how best to secure and manage these services in a high-availability environment. Primary Responsibilities:

1. Design, configure and manage Data Engineering Infrastructure on the Azure Cloud for utilisation by products built by the OPEN team for OLS (Optum Life Science)
2. Ensure security and data quality standards are established and enforced
3. Stay current with emerging trends in Cloud technologies and evaluate their impact on our products
4. Build infrastructure using code (IaC) and repeatable designs.
5. Identify opportunities for improvement, optimize performance and scalability of existing Cloud solutions
6. Setup, maintain related documentation and standards and facilitate knowledge distribution across the Teams.
7. Troubleshoot and debug complex technical issues and provide timely resolution to technical challenges
8. Prioritize and manage work to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment
9. Partner with Data Science and Product leaders to design best practices and standards for developing and delivering analytic pipelines while optimizing cloud resources for data processing
10. Mentor and train junior members of the team.

Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field or equivalent experience
2. Strong software product development experience on a public cloud ecosystem (AWS, Azure, GCP).
3. Extensive hands-on experience developing Cloud solutions which demonstrate a strong understanding of software engineering principles
4. Excellent knowledge of one or more Public Cloud Service offerings such as – PaaS, FaaS, Workflow orchestrators, Service Principal, Containers, Secret management etc.
5. Experience of IaC using tools such as Terraform, Pulumi etc.
6. Experience of hands-on utilization of SQL with large data volumes.
7. Strong programming experience with two or more languages (e.g Python, Java) and scripting for automation (e.g., Bash, PowerShell).
8. Understanding of cloud security principles and practices.
9. Experience of real-time or batch data pipelines with an awareness of the importance of fault tolerance within the pipelines.
10. Experience in using modern software engineering tooling (Jenkins, GHA, Sonar, Twist-Lock or alternatives etc.) and process in terms of Agile delivery in a CI/CD work environment.
11. Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members

Preferred Qualification:

1. Experience with databases, data warehousing, and big data technologies (e.g., Databricks, Spark, DBT).
2. Experience with cloud hosted Data warehouses and cloud hosted analytical solutions - ideally SnowFlake - such as (Synapse, BigQuery, Redshift etc)
3. Hands on experience of securing cloud applications.
4. Good understanding of Microservices architecture
5. Experience with various architecture and software design patterns
6. Experience in the healthcare industry
7. Excellent time management, communication, decision making, and presentation skills
8. Display a strong desire to achieve and attain high levels of both internal and external customer satisfaction
